As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in the meetings industry, IBTM World 2026 is significantly expanding its Event Technology & Services offering, placing greater emphasis on practical applications, startup innovation and investment opportunities when the show returns to Barcelona from 17–19 November.

Rather than presenting technology as an attraction in itself, organisers are positioning this year's programme around helping event professionals identify solutions that address operational challenges, strengthen attendee engagement and demonstrate event value.

The expanded Event Technology & Services Zone will become one of the largest dedicated showcases of event technology within the global meetings industry, bringing together established providers, emerging startups and investors under one roof.

More than 100 startups and over 15 investors are expected to participate alongside major technology suppliers including EventsAir, vFairs, ACS Audiovisual Solutions and Swoogo. Visitors will be able to compare platforms covering event management, AI-powered matchmaking, attendee engagement, analytics, hybrid event delivery and immersive experiences through live demonstrations and product showcases.

AI moves from concept to practical application

Artificial intelligence will play a more prominent role throughout this year's edition, with the introduction of AI for Events – Demo Day LIVE, delivered in partnership with consultancy and media company Boldpush.

Taking place on 19 November, the programme will feature ten selected companies — Advcy, CueForge, Event Flow App, Event Labs, Exhibitly, ExpoBooth, Highbar, Magipic, Memnto Photo and uchop — demonstrating AI-driven tools designed to improve networking, audience engagement, operational efficiency and event experiences.

Alongside live demonstrations, attendees will have access to a dedicated AI exhibition area, lightning demo sessions and Future Stage discussions examining how artificial intelligence is being implemented across the business events sector.

IBTM World Show Director Claudia Hall said: "Event professionals are being asked to achieve more, from creating stronger attendee connections to proving event impact and delivering more personalised experiences.

Technology has an important role to play yet knowing where to start and understanding what solutions can genuinely make a difference is often the biggest challenge. Our aim is to bring together the people, partnerships and practical innovation helping event professionals create stronger events and deliver greater commercial value."

Startup programme returns

The show's startup initiative, IBTM Ignite, will also return following its launch last year, continuing its focus on connecting emerging event technology companies with international buyers and investors.

The inaugural programme attracted more than 80 startups, with 35 selected to participate in pitching sessions, exhibition opportunities and commercial networking activities. Organisers expect the initiative to grow further in 2026, while more than 15 investors will once again offer mentoring alongside potential investment opportunities for participating businesses.

By combining the expanded Event Technology & Services Zone, AI for Events – Demo Day LIVE and IBTM Ignite, IBTM World is positioning technology as one of the defining themes of this year's edition, reflecting growing demand from organisers for solutions that can improve efficiency, personalisation and measurable event outcomes.
