The Events Industry Council (EIC) has announced that Workday Rising, the annual customer conference hosted by Workday, has achieved the highest level of certification under the EIC Sustainable Events Standards for the second consecutive year.
“Earning platinum-level certification for a second year reinforces that sustainability isn’t an initiative for us — it’s integral to how we design every Workday experience,” said Erik Hansen, chief sustainability officer, Workday. “The certification reflects the work of countless teams who ensure that every decision — from materials to partner selection to on-site operations — supports our sustainability goals.”
Developed through a global collaborative process involving subject matter experts from across the business events ecosystem, the EIC Sustainable Event Standards provide a comprehensive framework to guide organisations at every stage of their sustainability journey. The standards combine clear guidance with measurable metrics, enabling event professionals to implement and evaluate responsible practices across a wide range of areas, including organisational management, marketing, communications and engagement, climate action, water management, materials and circularity, supply chain management, diversity, equity and inclusion, accessibility, and social impact.
“Workday Rising’s achievement demonstrates what’s possible when sustainability is embraced as a core pillar of event design,” said Amy Calvert, chief executive officer, EIC. “Their continued leadership shows that events can deliver exceptional experiences while also advancing environmental and social responsibility. We’re pleased to recognize Workday Rising with platinum-level certification once again.”
The 2025 edition of Workday Rising — delivered in partnership with George P. Johnson (GPJ), Sparks, Freeman, MAKR, Bellwether, Convention Management Resources (CMR), Giants Enterprises, and Moscone Center — marked the largest and most ambitious gathering in the event’s history, bringing together more than 30,000 in-person and digital participants. Certification was awarded following an independent audit conducted by the Alliance for Audited Media.
“Workday Rising’s certification reflects its deep, continuing commitment to measurable sustainability,” said Rich Murphy, CEO, president and managing director, AAM. “We applaud their efforts to bring greater transparency and accountability to the events industry.”
