Nearly 9,000 delegates, almost 200 exhibitors and the largest exhibition space in the event's history made ICRA 2026 the most successful edition of the world's leading robotics congress, highlighting the growing scale and global relevance of automation technologies.

The IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2026) has concluded in Vienna after delivering the strongest results in the event's history, attracting a record number of delegates, exhibitors and industry partners from across the globe.

Held under the theme "Robots for All", this year's congress welcomed nearly 9,000 participants, a significant increase from the 6,200 delegates recorded in 2025. The exhibition also reached new heights, bringing together 196 international exhibitors across more than 14,000 square metres of exhibition space, competitions and live demonstrations, while sponsorship revenue also reached an all-time high.

The success of ICRA 2026 was the culmination of a five-year process that began in 2021, when AIM Austria, together with the Technical University of Vienna, the Vienna Convention Bureau and VIECON, secured the successful bid to host the congress. Since then, AIM Group International has overseen every stage of the project, from congress management and sponsorship development to exhibition planning, stakeholder engagement and delegate experience.

One of the defining features of this edition was its effort to extend the congress beyond the convention centre. Through the Festival of Robots, robotics became part of the city's public life, with free exhibitions, live demonstrations and educational activities designed to engage families, students and local communities.

The initiative reflected a broader ambition to make robotics more accessible and demonstrate how automation is already transforming industries, healthcare, mobility, education and everyday life.

Beyond its scientific programme, ICRA 2026 generated a substantial economic impact for Vienna. The arrival of almost 9,000 international delegates provided an important boost for the hospitality, tourism, transport and service sectors, while illustrating the value that large-scale international scientific congresses can generate for host destinations.

The social programme also played a central role in the delegate experience. The Imperial Night, hosted at the historic Hofburg Palace and the Spanish Riding School, welcomed approximately 4,800 participants for an evening celebrating Vienna's cultural heritage.

Sustainability and social impact were integrated throughout the congress, with initiatives focused on waste reduction, inclusion and public engagement. At the same time, the event strengthened collaboration between academia, industry and society, creating a legacy intended to extend well beyond the closing session.

As robotics continues to play an increasingly important role in addressing global challenges—from healthcare and manufacturing to mobility and education—ICRA 2026 demonstrated how international scientific congresses can serve as platforms not only for knowledge exchange but also for innovation, industry collaboration and public engagement.

For one week, Vienna became more than the world's robotics capital. It offered a glimpse into how scientific research, technological innovation and international collaboration are shaping the future.
