Global fitness racing brand HYROX is set to stage its largest event ever in Asia when BYD HYROX Bangkok takes place from 13–16 August 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC). Expected to attract more than 22,000 participants from Thailand and overseas, the four-day event marks another milestone in the rapid expansion of participatory sports events across the Asia Pacific region.
The announcement reflects not only HYROX's growing international footprint but also Bangkok's emergence as a destination capable of hosting large-scale lifestyle and sports events that generate significant visitor flows and economic impact. With operations spanning more than 30 countries and over 100 events scheduled during its 2025/26 season, HYROX has identified Asia Pacific as one of its fastest-growing markets, with 17 events taking place across the region this year alone.
"This will be the biggest HYROX race in the history of Asia, which is important not only for Bangkok, but for Asia as a whole," said Gary Wan, Managing Director of HYROX Asia Pacific.
The Bangkok event follows the success of the March edition, which attracted almost 17,500 competitors, prompting organisers to expand the event from three to four days. The growth reflects increasing demand for competitive fitness events and reinforces Thailand's position as a regional hub for sports tourism and international participation.
Beyond the race itself, HYROX has invested heavily in building a local fitness ecosystem. The organisation now works with more than 170 affiliated gyms across Thailand, including around 100 in Bangkok, supporting coaches and facilities with official training programmes designed to prepare athletes for competition while strengthening year-round community engagement.
The choice of Queen Sirikit National Convention Center also highlights the evolving role of convention centres as multi-purpose venues capable of accommodating experiences that extend well beyond traditional meetings and exhibitions.
Speaking about the partnership, Wan said: "The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center is the perfect venue for such a momentous occasion. We are committed to continually elevating the HYROX experience for all our races, so being able to partner with a venue which has such iconic history will help us fulfill this. The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center will lay the foundation for an extraordinary atmosphere come August."
For Surapol Utintu, Chief Executive Officer of QSNCC, the event further demonstrates how international sporting events can contribute to destination development. "The event is expected to attract participants from around the world and contribute to Thailand's tourism and broader economy. As a venue, we are committed to serving as a platform for world-class international events – capable of hosting large-scale experiences while connecting global audiences with Thailand's sports and lifestyle ecosystem."
Looking ahead, HYROX intends to continue expanding across Southeast Asia, with upcoming events planned in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, while also exploring opportunities in Vietnam and the Philippines. The company is also broadening its audience through initiatives such as HYROX Youngstars, introducing adapted competitions for children aged 8 to 15 as part of its long-term strategy to develop the sport and grow participation.
As destinations increasingly compete to attract events that combine tourism, community engagement and international visibility, Bangkok's latest HYROX event illustrates how convention centres and cities are diversifying their event portfolios beyond traditional business meetings, embracing large-scale experiential formats that appeal to both local communities and international visitors.
