APSAE to Unveil First State of Asia Pacific Associations Report

The Asia Pacific association community is set to receive its first comprehensive regional benchmark with the launch of the State of Asia Pacific Associations Report, to be unveiled at the APSAE Summit 2026 on 24 July at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

Developed by the Asia Pacific Society of Association Executives (APSAE), the report is the first study dedicated exclusively to the association sector across the Asia Pacific region. More than simply taking stock of the current landscape, it seeks to provide association leaders with a clearer understanding of the structural challenges, opportunities and priorities shaping one of the world's fastest-growing economies.

The publication comes at a pivotal moment. While Asia Pacific accounts for more than half of global economic growth, its association sector remains highly fragmented, with organisations operating largely within national boundaries, relying heavily on membership dues and lacking the regional frameworks and collaborative structures seen in other parts of the world.

At the same time, the report highlights a growing skills challenge. With almost 80% of employers across Asia Pacific reporting difficulties in recruiting qualified talent, associations are increasingly expected to play a central role in professional development, certification and workforce upskilling. Yet many organisations continue to face constraints in governance, digital capability and cross-border collaboration, limiting their ability to respond to these demands.

Rather than simply documenting these challenges, the report examines the forces reshaping the association landscape and identifies the strategic priorities that will define future success. Topics include the adoption of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, leadership succession, volunteer engagement, revenue diversification beyond membership dues, advocacy, and the growing role of associations as drivers of economic development and community impact.

According to Prasant Saha (on the right), President of APSAE, the report represents a milestone for the region's association community. "This report is the first serious attempt to understand the state of association leadership across our region on its own terms – not through the lens of models built in other regions. Asia Pacific's association sector is at a critical turning point. The findings will challenge assumptions, surface urgent priorities, and give association leaders the evidence they need to make the case for investment, relevance, and impact."

APSAE is a neutral, non-profit platform connecting association leaders, partners, and knowledge institutions across the region, with the mission to strengthen the association ecosystem through collaboration, education, and leadership development.

The report will be presented for the first time to delegates attending the APSAE Summit 2026 before being released publicly after the event. Beyond providing a snapshot of the sector today, APSAE hopes it will establish a long-term evidence base to support stronger collaboration, more informed decision-making and greater recognition of the role associations play in shaping industries, professions and societies across the Asia Pacific region.
