Szczecin is joining one of the most important organisations in the global MICE industry. Following its involvement in the GDS-Index, it’s now time for ICCA – the International Congress and Convention Association.

Joining the Association is a natural step in the development of Szczecin’s business and conference offerings. ICCA brings together over 1,100 members from nearly 100 countries, including event organisers, convention centres, convention bureaux, hotels and service providers from the MICE sector.

Until now, Poland was represented in the Association by 18 entities. Szczecin now joins their ranks. Membership in this elite organisation opens new opportunities for the city to promote itself as an attractive destination for hosting international business events, congresses and conferences.

“Membership in ICCA gives us many opportunities - from a network of contacts and expert support to visibility and recognition at international events,” says Anna Rojek from the Szczecin Convention Bureau.

As a dynamically developing city with modern infrastructure and a strong academic base, Szczecin is gaining increasing importance on the map of European conference destinations. The city attracts international companies that invest their capital and contribute to a sustainable future.

Membership in ICCA strengthens Szczecin’s position as a reliable partner for organisers of international meetings and negotiations.

Within ICCA, Szczecin Convention Bureau will actively participate in various initiatives such as trade shows, industry workshops and research projects that support the development of a sustainable and innovative meetings market. It’s worth noting that in March this year, Szczecin Convention Bureau also joined the Global Destination Sustainability Index (GDS-Index) 2025.

Poland in ICCA

The significance of this step goes beyond a local perspective. Szczecin’s inclusion in ICCA also represents a substantial boost to Poland’s position as a comprehensive, modern and competitive destination for business events. The steadily growing number of Polish members in ICCA signals that the country is systematically enhancing its competencies in attracting international events while maintaining quality, professionalism and innovation.

“Szczecin’s joining ICCA is an excellent example of regional development supporting the meetings industry. ICCA offers not only visibility but also concrete development tools, knowledge exchange and professionalisation of activities. We are pleased that another city is actively contributing to building Poland’s position as the leader of Central Europe in organising international association events, while also strengthening our country’s standing in the Baltic Sea region,” adds Aneta Książek, Head of the Poland Convention Bureau at the Polish Tourism Organisation.

According to the latest ICCA report, GlobeWatch Business Analytics - 2024 Country and City Rankings, Poland ranks 19th globally and 12th in Europe in the number of international congresses, conferences and association meetings. In 2024, Poland hosted 191 events that met ICCA criteria.

Szczecin’s presence in ICCA, following its earlier involvement in the GDS-Index, is a coherent part of the city’s development strategy, based on innovation, a sustainable approach and a commitment to international cooperation. It also confirms that Poland is becoming an increasingly significant player in the global meetings industry, ready to host events of the highest caliber.
