The Events Industry Council (EIC) is pleased to announce that Singapore EXPO, managed by Constellar, has achieved GOLD level certification under the EIC Sustainable Event Standards. This marks the venue’s second consecutive GOLD certification.
Singapore EXPO is the country’s largest purpose-built venue for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE), hosting more than 6 million visitors and 600 events annually. It is also recognized as Asia's Most Sustainable MICE Venue, powered by renewable energy, with initiatives aligned to Singapore's Green Plan 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
"Achieving GOLD level certification under the EIC Sustainable Event Standards reflects our enduring commitment to sustainability and our responsibility to lead by example within the events industry," said Ian Gan, vice president of centre management & sustainability, Constellar. "We strive to ensure every initiative at Singapore EXPO aligns with our mission to minimise environmental impact while setting new benchmarks for sustainable event management. We will continue to inspire others across the industry to embrace responsible practices that shape a sustainable future."
The EIC Sustainable Event Standards were developed through a global collaborative process with input from subject matter experts across all sectors. They provide a framework for collaboration and emphasize guidance and metrics to support event professionals at all stages of their sustainability journey, helping them implement and measure sustainable practices effectively.
The standards set performance criteria across areas such as organisational management, marketing, communications and engagement, climate action, water management, materials and circularity, supply chain management, diversity, equity and inclusion, accessibility, and social impact. To date, more than 300 professionals have participated in reviewing the standards, and the event organiser standard is among several comprehensive benchmarks for environmentally sustainable events.
"Singapore EXPO’s achievement is a powerful testament to their leadership and proactive approach in embedding sustainability into every facet of their operations," said Amy Calvert, president and CEO of the Events Industry Council. "Their commitment to renewable energy, waste reduction, and sustainable sourcing is an inspiring example of how venues can drive positive environmental impact."
The Alliance for Audited Media (AAM), a not-for-profit auditing organisation, conducted the independent third-party certification of Singapore EXPO’s compliance with the venue standard.
"The certification underscores Singapore EXPO’s continued dedication to transparency and accountability in sustainability,” said Richard Murphy, CEO, president and managing director, Alliance for Audited Media. “We applaud their commitment and achievement.”
