For 2021, Quito estimates a 32% recovery in non-resident international visitor arrivals, compared to the previous year.

The city of Quito became one of the most attractive destinations in South America, for both leisure and business travel, as well as meetings and events, and it attracts thousands of tourists every year.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has strongly hit tourism worldwide, Quito has stood out for its recovery strategies that include strict biosafety protocols to guarantee the health and well-being of locals and visitors alike.

As part of the recovery strategy, Quito Tourism Board is going virtual with the "Destination Quito 2021 - Travel Expo", to showcase the variety of attractions the destination has to offer to the travel and meetings industries, creating a great opportunity to generate new business and strengthen existing partnerships, in order to promote the destination and support the recovery of tourism in the city.

This B2B virtual platform will allow participants to network with more than 20 delegates, including hotels, DMCs, venues, and attractions, as well as with other representatives of the local tourism industry in Quito. The objective is to showcase the capital of Ecuador as a renewed and safe destination and generate confidence in international markets to start planning and booking for the second half of 2021 and for 2022.

In addition to the conferences and meetings, participants will have the chance to win prizes offered by the travel partners and sponsors of the travel expo.

Carla Cárdenas, General Manager of Quito Tourism Board, invites industry partners in the Americas to join the virtual event, stating that “this will be a unique opportunity to re-connect with tourism exhibitors from Quito, and discover everything that Quito has to offer to both business partners and consumers, not only in the city but in the region as well. This is our first virtual travel expo, as we want to innovate and use new technologies to reach our existing and potential partners in key markets”.

The event will begin on June 8th with a full day of activities for travel agencies, tour operators and the MICE industry in Latin America; followed on June 9th by an exclusive agenda for travel agencies and tour operators in the United States and Canada. The event will close on June 10th with tailored activities to connect the destination with the MICE industry of the United States and Canada.

Key features of the expo

The agenda includes destination presentations focused on travel pillars such as adventure tourism, family travel, gastronomy, creative tourism, eco-tourism, among others, as well as product exhibitions, updates on biosafety protocols and live streaming from different parts of the city, hosted by renowned local and international chefs, tour guides and other local representatives.

During the virtual event, tour operators and meeting planners will be able to have 1-on-1 video business meetings with Quito delegates, strengthening the relationship and creating new business opportunities, as international markets slowly open and air connectivity to Quito resumes.
