Penang hosted the successful V-Malaysia 2024 Convention, organised by QNET, a global leader in direct selling, from September 12 to 16 at the Penang SPICE Convention Centre.

Supported by the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), the event reinforced Penang's standing as a premier destination for business events. V-Malaysia has held a special place in Penang’s calendar for the past 12 years, and since 2023, it has grown so immensely that it is now hosted twice a year in Penang.

The convention, which drew over 9,000 participants from nearly 50 countries, underscored the significant economic impact that business events bring to Penang. Themed “Unstoppable,” V-Malaysia 2024 not only fostered global business connections but also contributed substantially to the local economy by boosting demand for hospitality, transport, food and beverage, and other related services.

YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State EXCO for Tourism & Creative Economy, emphasised the convention’s economic significance: "Since first hosting the V-Malaysia convention in 2008, Penang has seen a significant surge in tourism and international recognition. The vibrant life and commerce that QNET brings with each event have been instrumental in this growth. Between 2023 and 2024, Penang's economy experienced substantial growth driven by a resurgence in the tourism sector, recording nearly seven million passenger movements in 2023—a 64.5% increase compared to the previous year."

He further noted, "When companies like QNET host large-scale events repeatedly, it leads to the creation of both temporary and permanent jobs in various sectors, particularly in hospitality, tourism, and event management. This greatly benefits the local economy."

V-Malaysia 2024 demonstrated Penang’s capability to host international conventions that deliver high value and high impact, further establishing the state as a dynamic hub for business events. The collaboration between QNET and local partners showcased Penang’s potential as a world-class destination for both business and leisure tourism.

By consistently attracting international events like V-Malaysia, Penang not only enhances its global standing but also fosters sustainable growth for its local economy and community. The V-Malaysia 2024 Convention exemplified this synergy, driving economic benefits while highlighting Penang’s unique blend of cultural heritage and modern amenities.
