400 scientists from all over the world will gather in Rimini to discuss the organic substance of various ecosystems. Palacongressi is already guaranteed 12 major international events between now and 2025.
Another success story for the Event & Conference Division of Italian Exhibition Group who have clinched yet another major international event for the Palacongressi di Rimini. It was a team effort combining the expertise of IEG with the city’s system, showcasing a competitive and attractive destination that is steadily gaining ground in Europe.

The latest chapter is the official communication from IHSS, an international scientific association that will meet at the Palacongressi di Rimini from 26 to 30 August 2024. Since 1981, IHSS has been a melting pot for scientists working in the field of humic substances, involved in many processes in soils and natural waters. Founded in Denver, IHSS has nearly 900 associated scientists and is recognized as a world leader in promoting the education and scientific research of humic substances as well as raising public understanding on the topic.

The conferences are held every two years, previous editions took place in Varna (Bulgaria), Kanazawa (Japan), Ioannina (Greece), Hangzhou (China), Tenerife (Spain), Moscow (Russia) and Karlsruhe (Germany). The 2021 edition was virtual and took place in the United States.

The event usually takes place over five days and prior to Rimini, the only Italian city to host it was Bari, thirty years ago. The positive outcome of the bid followed a site inspection by the Local Organizing Committee and a challenge from the city of Brno (Czech Republic).

IHSS is part of the Palacongressi’s strategy of attracting international events to Rimini, to be consolidated over the long term and which has already led to 12 confirmed events scheduled from 2022 to 2025.

The IEG team that developed and presented the bid worked in synergy with Prof. Teodoro Miano of the University of Bari, who was also involved in the previous congress held in Italy, and with Prof. Claudio Ciavatta of the University of Bologna and Prof. Claudio Zaccone of the University of Verona.

The synergy between exhibitions and congresses is constantly thriving, an added value that IEG continues to produce and which consolidates its leadership in the industry. Many IHSS scientists have participated in various editions of Ecomondo, the reference event for the circular economy, which was also a magnet for successful bids such as this.

Preparing nominations for international meetings promotes, at full capacity, about twenty proposals on an annual basis, with a constantly growing comeback. An organizational success that is the result of important investments and also supported by international affiliations such as AIPC (International Association of Convention Centres) and ICCA (International Conference Convention Association).

The high number of international attendees expected for 2022 is attributable to events scheduled with WWEA, an international association that embraces the wind energy industry with over 600 members in about 100 countries; EAERE, an international scientific association that operates in the environmental economy; ICCC, Academic Conference on Inorganic Chemistry; EAS, a European company linked to the development of marine and freshwater aquaculture, and FIM, the World Federation of Motorcycling.
