Malaysia Eases Restriction to International Travellers

With the latest announcement made by YB Khairy Jamaluddin, Health Minister, Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) gives as official the government's decision on the ease of restriction to restrict international travellers from 1 May 2022.

Representing the business events industry, the national bureau underscored that the announcement marks another significant breakthrough for Malaysia since it reopened its borders this month and waived quarantine requirements for vaccinated visitors. The easing is in line with the nation’s transition to the endemic phase of the outbreak, as high vaccination rates have kept hospital admissions low.

“I would like to thank the Malaysian Government and both the Minister of Tourism and Minister of Health for this fantastic news. This strategic move which is in tandem with practices in many other countries will help in boosting our business events industry and subsequently helps with the recovery of our economy. With fully vaccinated travellers exempted from pre-departure and on-arrival tests as covid-19 insurance is no longer required and no social distancing. This relaxation will benefit business events travellers greatly to a seamless travel experience to Malaysia this will increase registration to their respective events,” said Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB.

Some of the new measures that directly benefit the international business events visitors are as follows:

• Covid-19 insurance is no longer a requirement to enter Malaysia
• Travellers exempt from taking pre- and post-departure tests (for fully vaccinated individuals aged 12 years and below)
• Business events activities can be held without physical distancing
• All economic sectors are allowed to operate

“In capturing the new demands of Malaysia’s business events industry, it is critical to create a clear pathway to evolve our strategy for recovery and we believe this is where Malaysia is headed in the coming decade,” Dato’ Sri Khani concluded.
