IFEMA MADRID is hosting the 2026 ESMO Congress from 23 to 27 October, bringing nearly 40,000 specialists from around the world to the Spanish capital for one of the international oncology community’s leading scientific gatherings.

The five-day event brings together researchers, physicians, healthcare professionals, patient representatives and industry leaders to examine the latest advances in cancer research, diagnosis and treatment. Its programme reflects the continuing evolution of oncology, with a focus on emerging scientific findings and innovations that could shape the future of patient care.

The scale of the congress is reflected in its extensive use of IFEMA MADRID’s facilities. Across the exhibition precinct and the IFEMA MADRID Municipal Congress Centre, the event occupies 135,600 gross square metres, including 30,000 square metres dedicated to exhibition space. The infrastructure encompasses 10 halls and 70 meeting rooms, accommodating a programme that combines scientific presentations, professional exchange and industry participation.

Exploring the Next Frontiers in Oncology

The scientific programme features 296 presentations led by international experts, addressing developments in precision medicine, immunotherapy, early diagnosis and new therapeutic strategies. These areas of research are central to ongoing efforts to improve patient survival and quality of life, as advances in scientific understanding continue to inform clinical practice.

By bringing together stakeholders from across the oncology ecosystem, ESMO provides a platform for the exchange of knowledge between researchers, clinicians, healthcare organisations, patient representatives and companies developing new treatments and technologies. The congress also facilitates international collaboration, enabling specialists to share findings and explore how emerging approaches might influence cancer prevention, diagnosis and care.

Reinforcing Madrid’s International Congress Credentials

Beyond its scientific programme, ESMO 2026 reinforces Madrid’s position as an international destination for major congresses and business events. The attendance of nearly 40,000 professionals places the gathering among the largest conference events ever held in Spain, underlining the country’s capacity to attract significant international medical and scientific meetings.

For IFEMA MADRID, the congress demonstrates the operational capabilities required to accommodate events of considerable scale and complexity, combining exhibition areas, conference halls and meeting facilities across an extensive venue footprint.

As the global oncology community convenes in Madrid, ESMO 2026 brings scientific discovery and clinical expertise into a shared international setting, while highlighting the role of major medical congresses in facilitating professional collaboration and showcasing the capabilities of their host destinations.
