A £15 million (€17.25 million) investment programme, a new premium hospitality strategy and an expanded focus on conferences and events are at the centre of a new 10-year partnership between Legends Global, Coventry City Football Club and Coventry Building Society Arena.

Announced as Coventry City prepares to return to the Premier League, the partnership brings together the club, its home venue and Legends Global in a programme covering commercial, hospitality and operational activity across the arena.

Around £2.5 million (€2.88 million) of the joint investment has already been committed, with the remainder of the more than £15 million (€17.25 million) programme to be deployed over the next three years. The investment will target hospitality, food and beverage, technology, premium spaces and wider venue infrastructure, with the stated aim of improving the experience for fans, delegates, guests, promoters and event organisers.

The partnership formally covers the arena’s activities from 19 August and also includes a long-term global sales agreement under which Legends Global will lead premium sales and VIP hospitality strategy for the club and venue.

For Coventry, the timing places the arena at the centre of a broader push to capitalise on the city’s return to the Premier League while strengthening its position as a destination for major events beyond football.

Expanding the business events proposition

The conferences and events business is a significant element of the new partnership. Coventry Building Society Arena is already active in the C&E market, and Legends Global will combine that existing business with its international network and venue expertise to pursue further opportunities.

The strategy is intended to attract a broader range of conferences, exhibitions and large-scale events to Coventry, alongside the arena’s existing role in sport and live entertainment.

For a venue entering a new phase of investment, the ambition is to create greater connectivity between its different revenue streams and uses. Matchdays, conferences, exhibitions, hospitality and entertainment will all form part of the wider commercial strategy.

The programme also extends to the infrastructure supporting non-football events. Legends Global plans to introduce self-service technology and wider end-to-end operational efficiencies across matchdays and other events, alongside improvements to retail, conference and event spaces and premium hospitality.

A new hospitality proposition

Food and beverage is another major component of the transformation.

The arena will introduce new grab-and-go concepts alongside locally inspired dishes, with Legends Global placing an emphasis on local suppliers, sustainability and provenance. Existing concession stands are also due to be renovated, with the changes intended to improve both their appearance and service.

The most high-profile addition, however, comes through a new collaboration with Simon Rogan’s Umbel Restaurant Group, which includes L'Enclume, Rogan & Co, Aulis and Henrock.

Following the introduction of the concept at AO Arena’s The Mezz, the group will establish a new “mini residency” at Coventry through The Engine Room. Guests will be offered a Michelin-inspired menu curated by Simon Rogan and his team, including Great British Menu chef Oli Marlow.

The programme will use seasonal ingredients and Rogan-influenced menus, with appearances expected during the season from Simon Rogan, Tom Barnes and Oli Marlow.

Elsewhere, The Amp Bar & Grill will introduce a contemporary dining offer, while the Board Room is being reimagined as a more premium hospitality environment.

The investment is designed to extend beyond the food and beverage offer. Technology and operational improvements will be introduced across the venue, while the premium spaces are being developed as part of a wider strategy to create additional choice and commercial opportunity.

A new approach to premium sales

Legends Global’s involvement also brings a dedicated sales strategy to the venue.

Its Global Sales team has secured a contract with Coventry City to manage premium hospitality and VIP sales and strategy, covering seasonal and matchday hospitality sales, inventory optimisation and VIP delivery.

The objective is to combine revenue optimisation with an improved guest experience, while the early commercial response suggests strong demand: seasonal memberships have already sold out, with a limited number of match-by-match hospitality products now available.

For Doug King, Owner and Executive Chairman of Coventry City, the partnership is intended to extend well beyond the club’s return to the Premier League. “This is a landmark partnership for Coventry City, Coventry Building Society Arena and the city as a whole. Our return to the Premier League is a defining moment, but our ambition extends far beyond what happens on the pitch. Together with Legends Global, we are making a significant investment in the future of this venue and transforming the experience for everyone who comes through its doors.

We want to attract the world’s best talent both on and off the pitch and establish Coventry as a leading destination for sport, music, exhibitions, conferences and hospitality, 365 days a year. This is about matching the scale of our ambition with the quality of our environment, and demonstrating what Coventry can achieve on the national and international stage.”

For Legends Global, the partnership represents an opportunity to apply its venue, hospitality and commercial expertise to a market entering a significant new phase.

Chris Bray, Legends Global’s President, Europe, said: “Coventry City’s promotion to the Premier League is a huge moment for the club, its fans and for the city. It deserves a venue experience that matches the occasion, and that’s exactly what we’re here to deliver. This is about bringing real transformation to both the club and the arena – more phenomenal live entertainment content, elevated food and drink, new premium spaces and innovative partnerships that are genuinely unique. We’re setting a new benchmark for what the complete experience should look and feel like and are incredibly proud to be Coventry’s partner for this journey. We cannot wait to show fans, and the Premier League, what this venue can do.”

With the investment programme now under way, the partnership positions Coventry Building Society Arena for a period of significant change, with the focus extending from the football fixture calendar to a broader year-round programme of business events, exhibitions, hospitality, entertainment and other live experiences.
