It is with great sadness that we learn today of the recent demise of Sergio Baritussio, Director of the FIEXPO Latin America and creator and Director of the magazine "Eventos Latinoamericanos" for more than 20 years. Sergio passed away on Monday, October 5, at the age of 62 in Punta del Este, in his native Uruguay.

Mr. Baritussio was a pioneer journalist in the South American meetings sector, outstanding publisher and events professional and much-loved and respected by the global MICE Industry. We, here in the HQ newsroom, were bewildered to receive the tragic news. Our Managing Director, Vivian Xu, expressed her thoughts: "I am shocked to learn of the loss of Mr. Sergio Baritussio. He has always been a great supporter of our company for the past 5 years, linking HQ to the Latin American associations. It is without a doubt a great loss for our sector." Our former HQ Magazine Manager, Jesús Guerrero Chacón, wanted to send his condolences too: "I’m deeply sorry to hear the loss of Sergio. Since we met in Lima back in 2015, we saw each other in different places around the world, he was always there with a smile, a hug, a kind word and professional advice. Your passion and professionalism to promote meeting destinations in Latin America will not be forgotten. My thoughts go out with the family, friends and colleagues of Sergio in these very difficult times".

Baritussio has been linked to the MICE sector for more than 20 years through his Latin American Events magazine, the Latin American and Caribbean Meeting and Incentive Market magazine, and for 13 years, together with his wife Carolina Adano and Arnaldo Nardone, he directed Fiexpo, the largest Latin American fair in the industry of congresses, conferences, seminars, fairs, exhibitions, business roundtables, incentive trips and meetings in general. He was also the ICCA Chapter Chair for Latin America.

ICCA CEO Senthil Gopinath also paid tribute to the former Latin America Chapter chair: “We deeply regret to hear about the sudden demise of Sergio, a great friend and industry leader. The entire ICCA family is shocked and devastated. May his soul Rest in Peace. Heartfelt condolences to his family.”
