The institution has become the first Spanish convention operator to obtain this certification, thanks to the health measures and safety protocols ensure events are safe.

IFEMA obtained the AENOR certification for the hygienic health measures it adopted, as well as for its protocols against COVID-19, which guarantee that fairs, congresses and events at their venues are held safely. The institution has thus become the first Spanish convention operator to obtain this seal.

The AENOR certificate is an external endorsement of the effectiveness of the measures being applied by the company, and it also demonstrates that these initiatives comply with the guidelines set forth by the Ministry of Health and the regional and local authorities for COVID-19 prevention and hygiene.

In addition to evaluating the implemented protective and prevention measures, such as thorough inspection of capacity, regulation of human traffic, temperature control, spray arches, access via e-ticketing, emergency protocols, non-stop disinfection of spaces, constant air renewal and control of people, etc., the AENOR team audited the last edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, which took place from 10 to 13 September. Specifically, the fashion parade was the first semi-telematic hybrid event organised by IFEMA, held with the maximum-security guarantees for participants on this great international catwalk, the organisation of which was recognised as a model in the fight against COVID-19.

“IFEMA is proud to become the first trade fair operator in Spain to obtain this certification, issued by one of the leading certification bodies, which endorses the effort and investment made in recent months to guarantee a safe return to trade fair activity”, indicates Eduardo López-Puertas, general director of IFEMA. In addition, he adds that there is a "need to resume trade fair activity, as one of the key axes for the revitalisation of the economy, since it contributes more than EUR 5,000 million to Madrid's finances, and contributes to the generation of 30,000 jobs".

For his part, Rafael García Meiro, CEO of AENOR, stated that “IFEMA shows that its commitment to serving companies and society is foremost among its considerations, as befits its status. Its sound and, now certified, protocols are a powerful factor in promoting the confidence necessary for the sector to quickly recover its significant contribution to the economy.
