Just a few days before hosting one of the most prominent events held by the United Nations, the COP25 Climate Summit, which will be held at IFEMA from 2 to 13 December, IFEMA will join the United Nations Global Compact through its commitment to the sustainability of all its events. By joining the Compact, IFEMA is becoming part of the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, currently comprising more than 13,000 entities from over 170 countries.

IFEMA is thus committing itself to aligning its operations with the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact with respect to human rights, labour standards, the environment and the fight against corruption, as well as to adopting measures in support of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

According to Eduardo López-Puertas, managing director of IFEMA, “since the implementation of the CSR Master Plan, IFEMA has strengthened its commitment to promoting the Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, affected by its activity, stimulating economic growth and quality employment, the promotion of sustainable tourism practices, capacity building among employees, companies, suppliers, visitors, etc., the development of sustainable infrastructures that reduce the environmental impact of its activity, supporting social commitment among the workforce, and the transparency and ethical management of IFEMA itself”

With this new commitment, IFEMA is going one step further in promoting the sustainability of the 700+ events that are held every year at its facilities and solidifying its commitment to the more than 4 million visitors and 35,000 companies that participate in its activity each year.

The United Nations Global Compact operates in Spain through the Spanish Network, which currently has more than 1,534 entities attached to this corporate social responsibility initiative. Its objective is to promote the implementation of the Ten Principles of the Global Compact among the member entities and to contribute from the business sector to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
