ICCA is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and global advocacy with the appointment of Alexander Alles as Senior Director, Advocacy and Sustainability.

Alexander will join the ICCA team on 1 April, marking an important step in the association’s ongoing efforts to strengthen two of its core strategic pillars and support the global business events community in navigating an increasingly complex landscape.

Advocacy and sustainability at the centre of ICCA’s strategy

As the international meetings and events industry faces growing expectations around impact, accountability and long-term value creation, ICCA continues to place advocacy and sustainability at the heart of its strategic agenda.

The creation of this senior leadership role reflects ICCA’s commitment to:

  • Embedding sustainability as a fundamental pillar of industry development

  • Leading global advocacy efforts that highlight the value and impact of business events

  • Supporting members with practical pathways that move initiatives from intention to implementation

  • Encouraging collaboration and progress across regions, sectors and stakeholders

Strengthening the industry’s global voice

Alexander’s appointment represents a significant investment in the future of the global business events sector. In his role, he will lead ICCA’s global advocacy and sustainability strategy, working closely with ICCA members, key partners, policymakers and international institutions, as well as the association’s regional teams and global community.

Through this leadership, ICCA aims to further advance initiatives, frameworks and partnerships that help the industry respond to evolving sustainability expectations while strengthening the strategic positioning of international business meetings and events worldwide.

Leadership Perspectives

Dr. Senthil Gopinath, CEO of ICCA, said: “Advocacy and sustainability are central to our mission, and ICCA is making a purposeful investment to lead boldly in both areas. This senior role strengthens our ability to deliver meaningful strategies, support our global community, and move our industry from ambition to action.”

Alexander Alles said: “I am honoured to join ICCA at such an important moment for the business events industry. I look forward to supporting ICCA’s vision by advancing a strong global advocacy agenda and helping embed sustainability — particularly the Net Zero Carbon Events framework — across the ecosystem to accelerate real, measurable progress.”

ICCA welcomes Alexander to the team as the association continues to strengthen its efforts to build a robust framework for the long-term development and growth of the global business events industry.
