The ecoSTP congress and the Palau de Congressos de Girona have promoted an activity with teachers, with the aim of ensuring that the congress has a lasting impact on the territory and the citizens. "Meetings with a positive impact" is the initiative promoted by the Girona Congress Centre to ensure that major events leave a legacy in the city.

The sixth edition of the ecoSTP2023 International Congress on Sustainable Technologies for the Ecological Treatment of Wastewater will be held from 26th to 29th June at different venues of the Girona Conference Centre and is organised by the University of Girona (UdG) and the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA-CERCA) together with the IWA (International Water Association).

The congress will bring together more than 500 experts from all over the world and the programme includes lectures, courses, workshops and technical visits to present and discuss the latest developments in the treatment, reuse and recovery of wastewater resources from a multidisciplinary perspective.

The legacy of congresses in the city

The Conference Centre promotes the initiative that the major events it hosts have a positive impact on the territory and, in this way, leave a lasting legacy in the city. Along these lines, the conference organisers and the Girona team have worked together to include a seminar in the framework of ecoSTP2023 for secondary school teachers and technicians in the water sector, given by researchers from the UdG and ICRA-CERCA. The seminar will take place on 27 June at the Palau de Congressos.

Girona Conference Centre: a model of good practice

On Wednesday 21 June, part of the team from the Palau de Congressos travelled to Bilbao to take part in the 4th Training and Networking Day - Let's MICE - organised for the meetings tourism sector by the Basque Government's Department of Tourism (Basquetour). Under the title "Social legacy: linking our event with the citizens", the team of the palace detailed the lines of work necessary for each great event to leave a mark, a positive and lasting contribution, making the citizens co-participate in the activities that are carried out in the framework of a congress and giving back to the territory an economic, social and environmental legacy. Marta González and Nuri Prats, commercial managers of the Palau de Congressos and the Girona City Convention Bureau respectively, took part in the conference.
