Fira Barcelona will be the epicentre this autumn of international medical and technological advances. After the summer break, trade fair activity returns to the Montjuic, Gran Via and the International Barcelona Convention Centre (CCIB), with a packed programme of congresses, events and fairs featuring some of today's most important conventions in the medical and technological fields.
Fira plans to organise and host more than a hundred trade fairs and activities in its three venues over the next four months, among which the medical and technological congresses will be especially prominent, with nearly twenty events and more than 100,000 high-level professionals expected to attend.
Thus, in September, the Gran Via venue will host the ESCRS, a congress of the European Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgeons and the ESMO Congress, the annual meeting of the European Society of Medical Oncology; while the CCIB will host the SRS Annual Meeting, a global event of the Scoliosis Research Society and the EURETINA Congress of the European Society of Retina Specialists. Meanwhile, the EBJIS, a congress of the European Society of Bone and Joint Infections, will be held at the Montjuïc venue.
In October, the Fira Barcelona venues will host other events in the medical field such as the ESMRMB, the annual scientific congress of the European Society of Magnetic Resonance, in Montjuïc; while at the CCIB, the ESICM Annual Congress of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, the EORTC-NCI-AACR Symposium, a congress on cancer treatment and, at the end of November, FTP24, the international physiotherapy congress, will be held.
An autumn calendar in which technology also has a prominent presence with global events such as the Smart City Expo World Congress, the largest global summit on smart cities that will take place in November at the Gran Via venue, together with Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress, Tomorrow.Building World Congress, Tomorrow.Blue Economy World Congress and Barcelona Deep Tech Summit.
ESMO, the world's leading oncology congress will be a major event
In addition, the CCIB will host DrupalCon Barcelona in September, a convention that will bring together web and Drupal system experts, and in November, Gartner It Symposium XPO, the meeting of analysts of this high-tech multinational. VMware Explore Europe, the corporate meeting of one of the world's leading cloud service providers to be held in November at the Gran Via venue, will be another of the year's top tech events.
Fira Barcelona CEO, Constantí Serrallonga, points out that this calendar is the result of "the institution's commitment to strengthen and consolidate its position as an international meeting point for such essential and strategic sectors as health or technology". Serrallonga adds that "in addition, the staging of events in other areas such as the food, aeronautics, publishing and graphic industries enhances Fira's role as an economic and social driving force of the region".
In this regard, the trade fair calendar includes this October of traditional fairs such as Graphispag, the international exhibition of the graphic industry and visual communication; Liber, the international book fair in Spanish; Bizbarcelona, aimed at SMEs; or the Saló de l’Ocupació Jobs Fair.
In November, other flagship events will also be held, such as Gastronomic Forum Barcelona, Manga Barcelona, Ibtm World, a leader in the business travel and congress industry, Ocasión; and the emblematic Festival de la Infància - Childhood Festival will close the year.
The programme for these four months will complete a year in which Fira will have held more than 270 events, after the intense activity carried out up to July with major national and international events such as ISE, MWC Barcelona, Alimentaria-Hostelco, Seafood Expo Global, Barcelona Wine Week, B-Travel, Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, Hispack, Construmat and the IOT Solutions World Congress, among many others.
