The Darwin Convention Centre is announcing the inaugural Darwin Convention Centre Bid Champion Grant programme supported by Northern Territory Business Events and Tourism Australia.

“The programme is designed to support increased awareness of Darwin and the Top End as an outstanding business events destination by encouraging industry professionals and field experts to become international conference Bid Champions,” explains Peter Savoff, General Manager, Darwin Convention Centre.

“Now more than ever, it is imperative to build awareness and partner with our community to leverage resources and expertise to attract future conferences to Darwin.”

Two grants of $5,000 will be awarded across two rounds of funding to support successful Bid Champion Grant applicants with the aim to identify future international conferences that have the potential to be held in Darwin.

The programme provides individuals the opportunity to attend an international conference in their chosen field, network with peers and establish connections with professional colleagues.

Grant monies can be used to assist with travel to a prospective international conference, membership fees and conference registration, or other costs associated with the bid process including professional development.

Successful applicants will be supported by the Darwin Convention Centre and NT Business Events throughout the entire bidding process and must be willing to serve as a global ambassador for the region.

Natasha Fyles MLA, Minister for Tourism and Hospitality in the Northern Territory Government, expressed her support for the Bid Champion Grant program: “This is an outstanding initiative from the Darwin Convention Centre that leverages local expertise to attract more international association conferences to Darwin.”

The first round of applications are due 01 April 2022.
