Catalunya Meetings & Mobility is the new project promoted by the Catalunya Convention Bureau (CCB), in collaboration with Catalonia Trade & Investment and the support of the Public Office for the Transformation of the Mobility and Automotive Industry. The aim of this new programme is to generate a positive socio-economic impact, strengthening the MICE and mobility industries and boosting their growth and transformation.

Test driving, car launch, network training, motorsport hospitality, GT driving, off road experience... any kind of professional motor event is possible thanks to a wide offer of venues, hotels, circuits and roads for all tastes.

In the words of Sònia Serracarbassa, director of the CCB, Catalonia has “the expertise and everything necessary to successfully host automotive events. First of all, it has a varied and proven offer of adaptable and versatile spaces and services. It has an extensive and modern network of roads with a variety of unusual landscapes in a single destination. In addition, it has the international power of the Barcelona brand. The Catalan capital, synonymous with design and the avant-garde, is today the main 5G and sustainable mobility hub in southern Europe. Catalonia is the destination if you want everything to run smoothly”.

Catalonia, a MICE and automotive industry driver

Catalonia is one of the world’s leading destinations in attracting professional automotive industry events. For the quality and variety of its conference, convention and trade fair venues, for the knowledge accumulated since the origins of this major industry, for its international role in vehicle manufacturing and for the existence of a vibrant sector ecosystem which promotes innovative approaches that are already being implemented for the mobility of the future.

The automotive sector is a hub of activity that has a direct impact on the economy. And even more so at a time when the automotive sector is working to solve the great challenges posed by the energy transition and the transition to sustainable and connected mobility.

On this journey, Catalonia rolls and moves with the most important international events for professionals in an industry that is rapidly moving towards the electrification of engines and the emergence of new experiences in shared mobility.

Catalonia offers quality infrastructures for hosting international car and mobility events as well as experiences of major importance to the main promoters of the sector aimed at leading the way in the transformation of the industry. Catalonia’s prestige as a leading destination for the automotive sector has been built over more than 100 years to the present day, over a long journey full of success.

Catalonia is also a European benchmark in the fields of innovation, creativity and design and in terms of the dynamic and entrepreneurial capacity of its productive and business fabric, which helps to explain its reputation in the automotive world and the success of the initiatives it hosts as a major events region.

This ecosystem full of networking opportunities brings together the main actors in Catalonia, from leading RDI manufacturers, to innovation and research hubs, research and testing laboratories and other collaborative environments such as the automotive cluster, a source of many smart mobility projects.

Catalonia is internationally well connected with the capacity to receive more than 50 million passengers annually by air or by high-speed train, which guarantees connectivity with other cities, as well as through a road infrastructure that criss-crosses and connects the whole territory.

As an important destination for meetings and events, Catalonia offers an extensive network of conference centres, unique locations and efficient and attractive facilities throughout the region for hosting conventions, summits and meetings of professionals who want to showcase and share transformation indicators and news about the industry.

Other decisive factors that explain the positive response of visitors are the location, the climate, the culture and the excellent Mediterranean gastronomy, which is all part of the undoubted recognition and capacity for attraction that Catalonia inspires all over the world as a preferred meetings destination.

Top-level competitions are an essential factor in helping to maintain Catalonia as a major international automotive hub in Southern Europe throughout the year. It hosts very important events in the calendar, such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya race track, which has already celebrated its 30th anniversary, and races corresponding to the different categories of the World Motorcycling Championship, including MotoGP. It also hosts the Rally Catalunya–Costa Daurada, which counts towards the World Rally Championship, for which the focal point of the event are the facilities of PortAventura World in Salou. All these competitions mean that the eyes of the world are always on Catalonia, and they provide very important opportunities to engage with the general public. Team testing days on the circuit or brand presentations of new innovations and products offer other stimulating opportunities for hosting unique events related to these spectacular activities.

All the resources channelled into the organisation of events in Catalonia are aimed at enabling the protagonists of this hugely important sector to present new innovations that represent a step forward in the provision of mobility, performance, security, connectivity and sustainability on a global scale.

The ideal conditions that Catalonia offers as a preferred destination generate a huge number of opportunities for hosting forums focused on innovation and the generation of new businesses around smart mobility as well as other topics of major interest on connected and autonomous vehicles and the future of a renewed automotive industry as a catalyst for economic recovery.
