It was announced that the 45th Scientific Assembly of the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) is to be held in Busan. COSPAR, whose objective is the promotion of scientific research in space on an international level, has about 3,500 people participating from 60 countries annually.

The COSPAR conference in BEXCO from July 13 to 21, 2024, will be held under the theme of 'Space Research Together: Team Spirit in Space Research', with various lectures and presentations. There will also be festivals for the general public to enjoy.

Busan Tourism Organization and BEXCO were working together in proposing and bidding to host the Scientific Assembly of the Committee on Space Research since 2019. The Busan Tourism Organization will strive to make Busan the center of the world's space science and technology through the successful hosting of the 45th COSPAR.

The Korean Committee of COSPAR composed of experts in space science, such as solar physics and astrobiology, has been seeking to host the Scientific Assembly based on its successful hosting of the 3rd COSPAR Symposium in 2017. The 3rd COSPAR Symposium at Jeju ICC, was attended by about 350 people from 38 countries.

The COSPAR Scientific Assembly is the largest academic event in the field of space research involving 3,500 people from more than 60 countries and has been held every two years since 1958. Many researchers in the field of space science and astronomy are attending the COSPAR assembly as well as leaders of space agencies from around the world, to discuss development plans for space research and international cooperation.

"The COSPAR Scientific Assembly is the world's largest space science event with more than 4,000 academic presentations in various space research fields, including space science and exploration, and we will also support it as an opportunity to promote the industrial cooperation between the global and the Korean space industries in new space era" said Lee Chang-Yoon, the head officer of Space, Nuclear and Big Science Policy Bureau of MSIT.
