The launch of the first edition of the Brussels International Association Forum (BIAF) has moved from December to 14-15 March 2022. The decision was taken after careful considerations in consultation with all BIAF partners, speakers and workshop leaders.

All delegates were personally informed and have the option of either transferring their purchased BIAF ticket or receiving a full refund. BIAF was always promoted as a risk-free event when purchasing tickets and that will also remain the case for any ticket purchases related to the new date.

Kai Troll, President of ASSOCIATIONWORLD, the association movement and platform organising BIAF, said: “A large number of delegates raised concerns about attending public in-door events given the current COVID-19 climate in Belgium. Many associations have issued new internal guidelines that changed people’s behaviour in the last two weeks. The true value of BIAF lays in the workshops, peer-to-peer exchange, in-person networking and the experiential learning experience. BIAF is not a commercial event as such and we had to listen to our community. We felt that it was, therefore, most appropriate and sensible at this moment in time, to move BIAF into spring. We are thankful to the attendees, of which 92% of them have chosen to transfer their ticket to the March event.”

Gathering representatives of international and European Associations, Non-Profits, Federations, Societies and NGOs, BIAF aims at establishing an international leading platform and knowledge sharing event in one of the world’s flagship host destinations for professional associations and non-profit organisations.

BIAF’s primary mission this year is to bring together the Brussels, Benelux and France based and international / European associations and non-profit organisations to provide knowledge transfer, to enable peer-to-peer exchange, to share best practices and to design joint initiatives to tackle common challenges, to help achieve better results and greater impact.

Brussels is an institutional, political and advocacy hub like no other in the world, and a central location for international diplomacy, innovation and professional expertise. The city’s unique ecosystem of public, private, non-profit, academic and political players provides a fertile ground for fostering an impactful dialogue and expertise sharing. Building and extending the community amongst international and European associations and non-profit organizations is one of the essence of BIAF.

All BIAF speakers have committed their ongoing involvement, allowing the organisers to deliver the full programme. In addition, two other theme pillars will be added, as well as hybrid elements for some parts of the programme. Between December and the end of February, BIAF will run two complementary BIAFonline sessions in preparation to the March event, discussing topics and to ensure that the association community connects prior to BIAF.

THE PROGRAMME

The programme combines keynote speakers, a masterclass, peer-to-peer exchange and workshops, panel discussions and outdoor activities related to innovation, well-being and healthy minds.

Programme Pillars: Governance / Leadership / Leadership Development, Organizational Development, Organizational Culture, Finance / Resource Development / Diversification of Revenue Streams, Communications / Advocacy / Campaigning, Event Development / Event Design, Membership Development / Association Communities, Digital Transformation and other.

The BIAF advisory committee is identifying and defining the relevant topics to be discussed by international and European association representatives on the two events days. BIAF is for the association community, by the association community.
