Brisbane has been selected to host LNG2029, the International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Gas, securing one of the world's most influential energy events and reinforcing both the city's international standing and Australia's role in the global LNG sector.

Announced during LNG2026 in Doha, Qatar, the conference is expected to bring more than 4,200 delegates from over 80 countries to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC). Widely regarded as the leading global forum for the liquefied natural gas industry, LNG2029 will convene energy executives, policymakers and technology innovators to discuss the future of energy, showcase emerging solutions and facilitate international business partnerships.

Queensland plays a central role in Australia's LNG industry, supplying key markets across Asia while supporting the country's energy security and emissions reduction ambitions. Brisbane's successful bid highlighted the city's proximity to East Asia, its established convention infrastructure and its growing international profile ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The bid was led by the Australian Gas Industry Trust (AGIT) in partnership with Australian Energy Producers (AEP), with support from the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Tourism and Events Queensland, Brisbane Economic Development Agency and Tourism Australia.

According to Queensland Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell MP, the event is expected to generate significant economic benefits for the state. "LNG2029 is set to deliver huge benefits for our state, injecting up to $19 million into our economy and generating more than 16,800 visitor nights," Minister Powell said.

"With thousands of people from more than 80 countries attending the event this is another opportunity for Queensland to shine on the world stage while bringing more business to the local operators and small businesses that keep our tourism industry going. We secured this event through TEQ's Business Events Acquisition and Leveraging Fund because the Crisafulli Government is committed to attracting major events that create jobs and show off everything Queensland has to offer."

Queensland Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dale Last described the event as a strong endorsement of the state's energy sector. "Hosting LNG2029 sends a clear message that Queensland is open for business and is a global endorsement of the Crisafulli Government's commitment to make clear decisions, cut red tape and back the gas industry with real intent," Minister Last said.

"Queensland is a global leader in liquified natural gas, and we are serious about growing our gas sector, creating more highly skilled jobs and working with industry to deliver long-term energy security for Australia and the world."

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the selection reflects the city's growing reputation as a hub for energy innovation. "Energy and resources play a major role in powering our city's $200 billion economy, supporting jobs, trade and investment across Brisbane and Queensland," Cr Schrinner said.

"Hosting LNG2029 is a great recognition of the expertise we have here in Brisbane and the important role our city is playing in shaping the future of energy. We're excited to welcome thousands of delegates from around the world to share ideas, build new partnerships and experience everything our city has to offer."

Tourism Australia Managing Director Robin Mack highlighted the contribution of the national Bid Fund Program. "Through our Bid Fund Program, Tourism Australia is proud to support Brisbane's latest international event win. To date, the Bid Fund initiative has secured more than $1.5 billion in economic value, and plays a vital role in locking in a consistent event pipeline through to 2032."

The conference is expected to further strengthen Queensland's LNG industry by attracting international investment, reinforcing trade relationships and creating opportunities for local businesses and regional communities.

Professor Andrew Garnett, Executive Chair of the Australian Gas Industry Trust, emphasised Brisbane's strategic role within the global energy landscape. "A global centre for energy innovation, Brisbane sits at the heart of Queensland's unique energy ecosystem, a vital part of Australia's LNG sector. Australia is a trusted, reliable supplier, meeting the essential energy needs of people across the region. Together with BCEC, we are committed to making LNG2029 a landmark event for Queensland and the world."

Australian Energy Producers Chief Executive Samantha McCulloch added: "Hosting LNG2029 will be a significant opportunity to highlight the innovation and expertise of our world-leading LNG industry and reinforce Australia's role as a trusted and reliable energy partner."

For Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre General Manager Kym Guesdon, the event also reflects the venue's long-standing collaboration with the sector. "We are delighted to continue our valued partnership with the Australian Energy Producers and the Australian Gas Industry Trust and support them in bringing their flagship international event to Brisbane."

"Hosting LNG2029 at BCEC reflects our shared commitment to advancing a sector that is critical to Australia's energy transition. This event will showcase Brisbane's global capabilities and foster collaboration that drives innovation and sustainable solutions for the future of energy."
