Barts North Wing has opened its doors to corporate and private hire for the first time, introducing one of England’s most historic interiors to the events market.
Located within St Bartholomew’s Hospital in West Smithfield, the Grade I-listed space reopened in autumn 2025 following a £9.5 million restoration and is now available for business meetings, conferences and private events.
At the heart of the venue is the striking Great Hall, accessed via the iconic Hogarth Stair, which features two of William Hogarth’s most renowned works, The Pool of Bethesda and The Good Samaritan. Combining historic grandeur with modern infrastructure, the Great Hall accommodates up to 400 guests and is equipped with integrated lighting, heating and audio systems, making it suitable for conferences, gala dinners, ceremonies and large-scale gatherings.
The venue also offers more intimate spaces, including the Henry VIII Room, which can host up to 30 guests for dinner or 50 for receptions, and the Treasurer’s Room, designed for smaller gatherings of up to 20 guests. Catering is delivered by Lettice Events, with bespoke menus tailored to each occasion.
Commenting on the opening, Will Palin, CEO of Barts Heritage said: “This has been a truly landmark restoration project, and we’re thrilled to see Barts North Wing enter its latest chapter as a venue for corporate meetings and events. It’s a space that inspires from the moment guests arrive, combining centuries of history with the facilities needed for today’s events.
“Since its restoration the venue has only been available to patrons, partners and stakeholders so we’re all incredibly excited to now open our doors more widely, giving wider audiences the opportunity to experience these remarkable spaces for themselves.”
Originally constructed in 1732 to support fundraising for St Bartholomew’s Hospital, the North Wing had seen little investment for over five decades. The restoration project, led by Barts Heritage following its establishment in 2017, was completed in September 2025 and marks a significant step in preserving the building’s legacy.
Today, the launch of venue hire forms part of a broader vision to ensure the site remains both accessible and sustainable, supporting public programming and the hospital community. Revenue generated through events will contribute to Barts Heritage’s creative health and wellbeing initiatives, while safeguarding the building for future generations.
