The Auditori Palau de Congressos de Girona is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special weekend of activities from May 22 to 24, combining music, art, innovation, and professional reflection.

The programme features the world premiere of the return of Desglaç by Miguel Poveda, a unique concert in Catalonia by soprano Lise Davidsen, the participatory production Ressò, two breathtaking ascents of the building by tightrope walker La Corcoles, as well as conferences on artificial intelligence and meetings industry impact.

20 Years of Cultural and MICE Impact

Since its opening in May 2006, the auditorium has become a key cultural and economic hub in Girona. With over 1.9 million visitors attending its activities – including 2,400 concerts and 1,212 professional congresses and events –it has been instrumental in both meetings tourism and the Catalan music scene. This combination has turned the Auditori into a cultural, economic, and social driver, positioning Girona as a top destination for concerts and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events.

Special Weekend Program: May 22–24

On Friday, May 22, the weekend kicks off with the professional day “Twenty Years of Meetings Tourism in Girona”, including talks and roundtables on the evolution of the MICE sector and the impact of convention centres. In the evening, tightrope walker La Corcoles will perform an exterior ascent, followed by the live premiere of Desglaç with participation from Cor Geriona and the Cobla Ciutat de Girona.

On Saturday, May 23, activities include the lecture “Hack AI: Creating a Critical Society” by journalist Montserrat Rigall, and a recital by soprano Lise Davidsen, dedicated entirely to Franz Schubert’s work. La Corcoles will perform a second exterior ascent in the afternoon.

The weekend concludes on Sunday, May 24 with the world premiere of Ressò, a participatory concert celebrating Girona’s musical memory and community. Performers include Projecte Montsalvatge, Sacseig, Black Music Big Band, Cor Participatiu, Mazoni, Cala Vento, and others, creating a large-scale, open celebration for the public.

Looking Ahead

Today, the Auditori combines a high-quality cultural program with a strong congress activity, consolidating Girona as a key MICE destination. Future goals include continuing to host significant concerts and congresses, strengthening its commitment to artistic creation and education, and expanding the social and participatory impact of its projects.
