2024 will be a milestone year for Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center, with 55 events and around 300,000 visitors making it the venue's most successful year to date.

Medical congresses strengthen Messe Wien’s top position

From medicine to IT, technology, culture, and sports, the wide range of events in 2024 underlines Messe Wien’s versatility. The venue further strengthened its position as a leading destination for medical congresses. EULAR, the European Congress of Rheumatology; ERS, the European Respiratory Society Congress; and UEG Week, a leading congress on gastroenterology and hepatology, attracted numerous international delegates to Vienna. A highlight was the ERS "Legacy Project”, which raised public awareness of lung health through free lung function tests and educational campaigns for Viennese residents.

A hub for technology and industry expertise

The year kicked off with the Frauenthal EXPO, which for the third time transformed the Vienna Exhibition Center into a hub for plumbing and heating technology. Another outstanding event was Check Point: CPX 2024 Vienna, where the global cybersecurity industry gathered to explore solutions for today’s complex threat landscape. These events emphasize Messe Wien’s role as a knowledge platform for industry expertise and the strength of Vienna as a meeting destination.

Sustainability as a guiding principle

Sustainability took centre stage in 2024. Messe Wien received the Austrian UZ200 eco-label for its commitment to environmentally friendly operations and social responsibility. By the end of the year, the venue had completed its transition to LED lighting, and from 2025 it will be fully powered by green electricity, significantly reducing CO2 emissions. On-site partner companies also contributed to the venue’s environmental efforts through sustainable practices. In addition, four events, including the FENS Forum of Neuroscience, were certified with the UZ62 eco-label for green events.

Public favourites continue to shine

National public fairs such as Ferien-Messe Wien, BUCH Wien and Vienna Comic Con once again attracted large crowds, highlighting Messe Wien’s appeal to a diverse audience.

A season of art and innovation

Autumn 2024 was all about art and innovation. As part of the Calle Libre Festival, the entrance to parking garage A was artistically transformed, while viennacontemporary hosted its largest art exhibition in a decade. In addition, over 100 laser projectors at BattleKart Vienna, the world’s largest immersive experience center, regularly create stunning virtual worlds for visitors of all ages.

“Our achievements in 2024 and the bookings for next year show that Messe Wien remains a sought-after venue for national and international events. We look forward to continuing this success story in 2025 with our team and partner companies,” said Martina Candillo, Director Congresses & Events.
