As the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysia’s premier purpose-built facility, gears up to open its expansion in July the venue is proud of its contribution to Malaysia jumping one place to 9th in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East region according to the latest ICCA Country and City Rankings 2018.

Malaysia held 134 meetings in 2018 which moved the country up four-places to 33rd position in the overall ICCA rankings. The report also saw Kuala Lumpur climb to 34th for international meetings - up four spots on the previous year and retain its 10th position in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region.

According to the Centre’s General Manager, Alan Pryor “We are delighted that, of the 68 meetings held in the city, 32% or 22 were held at the Centre, attracting more than 20,000 participants to Kuala Lumpur that contributed over RM147 million in economic impact to Malaysia.”

Of the 22 meetings held at the Centre last year, seven were medical association meetings and the strong performance from this sector looks set to continue as the venue has eight medical meetings confirmed in 2019, which are expected to attract more than 6,300 participants.

Since opening, the Centre has hosted 15,000 events – attracting almost 25 million participants and delivering RM8.3 billion in economic impact to Malaysia – and with 3 new bid wins, including International Congress on Infectious Diseases (ICID) 2020, Ottawa Conference on the Assessment of Competence in Medicine and the Healthcare Professions 2020, the Centre remains the ‘venue of choice’ for the medical industry.

Pryor continued, “A warm and friendly multicultural country, Malaysia embraces diversity and offers a distinct value proposition, including amazing hospitality, world-class infrastructure, excellent connectivity and accessibility, as well as a multi-lingual population with English widely spoken, which has advanced its status to a leading host of medical association congresses.”

“With all these exciting attributes and recognition, as well as our expansion on the way, we are very pleased with our contribution and track record to-date. It is the continued investment in maintaining our world-class venue, our committed and passionate client-centric team and our support and collaboration with Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), as well as our industry partners and supply chain, that create this success,” he added.

Elaborating on the Centre’s client-centric approach, Pryor concluded, “Our client’s relationships are our most important asset and through a focus on our customer journey we have evolved our approach to deliver personal engagement with customised innovative value-add meeting solutions. We view every event as a collaboration to deliver to our client’s business objectives and our mutual success.”

The expansion will add an additional 11,000 sqm of flexible and multi-purpose space for the Centre’s clients to grow their events and enable the venue to accommodate more events simultaneously.
