Olympic Host & Leading City
Tokyo is enjoying high popularity as a global MICE city. Tokyo’s long-running popularity is reflected in our outstanding statistics, showing the city is 5th for the second year running, and in the top 10 for the past 12 years. In the run-up to 2020, Tokyo is attracting the attention of the world, including meeting planners. The number of business event enquiries increased markedly in recent months. With the upcoming 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games putting Tokyo in the spotlight, the city is rising to the challenge while also improving infrastructure, access and support for business events.
Better Infrastructure
More international flights at Tokyo’s airports mean better access and expanding hotels. International brands like Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo are opening their doors for the first time, while well-loved favorites like Okura Tokyo are getting a new life through renovations. New venues like the Forest Terrace Meiji Jingu and enlarged venues like Tokyo Big Sight, where a new South Exhibition Hall was opened in July 2019, are offering expanded choice to meeting planners.
Committed Support
TCVB Business Events team, with Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG), is committed to support future business events held in Tokyo. The current year saw an overhaul of the current subsidy system, which now offers higher levels of financial subsidy than ever before. A new Tokyo Volunteer Program created by TMG and TCVB also connects experienced and multi-lingual volunteers from Tokyo with meeting participants.
Sustainability
TCVB has published its first ever sustainability guidelines to serve as a tool for Tokyo-based MICE organizers, inspiring our partners to engage in the best sustainable practices. Providing all information necessary for a basic understanding of sustainability in regards to the MICE industry, the guidelines include a sustainability checklist which MICE organizers and suppliers can use to evaluate the environmental standards of their facilities and practices, ensuring that Tokyo remains at the forefront of environmental protection.
Unique Venues
There are 57 unique venues in Tokyo - art museums, shrines and temples, metropolitan facilities, and theme parks - that can be used as magnificent venues for welcome receptions, sponsor gatherings, dinner parties, and other events. Recent unique venue showcase events held in 2019 by TCVB in partnership with TMG have helped to raise the profile of these fascinating venues for unconventional events, including stunning locations like shrines, gardens and even downtown public streets.
All this makes Tokyo an excellent choice for your next business event. With its well-developed infrastructure, ever-increasing hotel rooms, and TCVB’s support, Tokyo offers a great value and an exciting experience for all.
