The city of The Hague is proud to be the destination for the 15th Annual Conference of the Metabolomics Society which will take place over five days on 24-28 June 2019. The conference is dedicated to fostering technological developments and applications of metabolomics in the broad field of life sciences. It invites attendees from all over the world to World Forum The Hague, the city’s largest convention centre.

‘The Hague’s international reputation as a first-rate congress destination is well established. I have no doubt that the participants of the Annual Conference of the Metabolomics Society will find their stay in The Hague inspiring and memorable, not the least because of the city’s leading edge in the industry’, commented Karsten Klein, deputy mayor of The Hague.

‘Metabolomics is a key enabling technology in the life sciences, for the comprehensive characterisation of the small molecule metabolites in biological systems. Its applications are manifold: from personalised medicine, understanding the causes and development of diseases, nutrition and micronutrients, to crop improvement and industrial biotechnology. In the conference we will put a strong emphasis on these applications. We will be reaching out to other communities that are increasingly applying metabolomics in their research, but not doing the analyses themselves. Therefore, we expect to attract a record number of attendees from all over the world’, said Prof. Dr. Thomas Hankemeier, Scientific Director of the Netherlands Metabolomics Centre and Chair of the Local Organizing Committee.

The Metabolomics Society is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to the development of metabolism-based research. Its annual meetings gather researchers in the field of metabolomics from all over the world and is the largest metabolomics conference of its kind, filled with exciting scientific programmes, workshops and social networking programmes. Sastia Putri, chair of the Conference Committee for the Society commented, ‘we are delighted to be having our next meeting in The Hague and we are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Metabolomics 2019’.

The Hague is well-suited for hosting the annual conference as the event aligns very well with the city’s regional strengths and leading research organisations as well as industry and academic medical centres in the Medical Delta. The Hague is well endowed with a reliable infrastructure, recreation facilities, and cultural offerings. World Forum The Hague has successfully hosted a wide range of international conferences of high calibre. The venue features a combination of multifunctional auditoriums and break-out rooms and offers the flexibility to customise meeting spaces to all necessary requirements.

‘I am confident that the attractiveness of our city, the friendliness of its residents, our international convention facilities and the city's broad experience in hosting medical events will ensure great success for the 15th Annual Conference of the Metabolomics Society’, stated Nienke van der Malen, director of The Hague Convention Bureau.
