Last year, Visit Porto & North of Portugal – Convention & Visitors Bureau launched the promotional campaign “Meethology”, a 100% digital project to showcase why this Portuguese region is a privileged destination for the meetings industry.

The main goal of “Meethology” is to make Porto and North of Portugal known through the voice of its leading players and entrepreneurs, showing that the destination has a scientific, associative and business fabric which is dynamic, innovative and capable of responding to the challenges of today.

The initiative is organised into three pillars, each one with a different theme, and in each one of them there are interviews with leading players of the region and a field trip to one of the companies that stands out in the area in question.

In the first pillar – “Where Innovation Meets History” – it is intended to present Porto and North of Portugal as a destination where history blends with vibrant start-ups and a creative ecosystem. For this, Felipe Ávila da Costa, cofounder and CEO of Infraspeak, a technology company that produces maintenance management software, was interviewed, and a visit was made to PlatformE, a company that is revolutionising the fashion and textile industry in the region.

In the second pillar – “Where Lifestyle Meets Heritage”, the concept is to show why Porto, the gateway to the region, is a vibrant city with a gastronomic tradition famous throughout the world. As such, Mafalda Magalhães, director of FC Porto Museum, one of the major football clubs in Portugal, was interviewed, and leisure spaces like Ateneia, Golden Oldie and Espaço Porto Cruz were visited.

Finally, in the third pillar – “Where Sustainability Meets Tradition”, the goal was to show that the destination is increasingly committed to sustainability and to building a better future for all. For this, Pedro São Simão, coordinator of the Portuguese Plastics Pact, was interviewed, and Cantinho das Aromáticas was visited, a place whose main purposes are the organic production, drying, packaging and marketing of aromatic herbs.

By travelling through cities such as Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Matosinhos or Braga and, at the same time, showcasing some out-of-the-box venues for holding events, the aim is to show event planners and professionals in the MICE industry that Porto and North of Portugal is an innovative and forward-thinking destination.
