The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) today announced its upcoming ISTH 2017 Congress is expected to surpass records in the field for event attendance and an increase in abstract submissions, exhibitors, supported satellite symposia and product theaters. These record-breaking numbers reflect the strong scientific and clinical advances in the field, particularly by ISTH members.

The ISTH 2017 Congress, taking place July 8-13 in Berlin, Germany, brings together the world’s leading experts in thrombosis, hemostasis and vascular biology with a focus on understanding bleeding and clotting disorders to better serve patients. With an expected attendance of up to 10,000 delegates from 90 countries, ISTH 2017 will not only be the largest global meeting in thrombosis and hemostasis to date, but also among the largest scientific meetings hosted in Berlin.

This year, an astounding 3,120 scientific abstracts from 83 countries were submitted by clinicians, scientists, academics and students for ISTH 2017, which is the second highest submission rate in the history of the meeting, following closely after ISTH 2007 in Geneva, Switzerland. Abstracts cover important topics such as atherothrombosis and stroke, coagulant and anticoagulant mechanisms, diagnostics, hemorrhagic disorders and hemophilia, management of thromboembolism, pediatrics, nursing and allied health, platelets, transfusion and biotherapeutics, vascular biology and much more.

“ISTH 2017 is on track to be the most impactful meeting of both the scientific community and industry for the presentation of scientific advances and therapeutic approaches,” said Congress President Johannes Oldenburg. “We look forward to convening the world’s experts to discuss new clinical applications designed to improve patient care around the globe.”

In addition, the meeting will offer the largest industry exhibition of any meeting in the field since 2009. It will also feature a record-breaking number of supported symposia and product theaters, which underscore the exciting new diagnostics and therapeutic approaches that will be revealed at ISTH 2017.

“The ISTH is committed to providing the latest innovations in scientific meetings and continues to explore creative and exciting offerings for our delegates,” said Ingrid Pabinger, ISTH Chairman of Council. “ISTH 2017 delegates will experience a variety of new engagement platforms, including Congress TV, live streaming, a virtual delegate bag, and new networking features. These innovations reflect the ISTH’s overall focus on delivering knowledge and education in new ways to best meet the needs of scientists and clinicians around the world.”

In May 2016, the ISTH announced a strategic decision to hold its global congress in an annual format starting in 2019. The annual format will allow researchers, clinicians and allied health professionals in the bleeding, clotting and related fields to remain on the cutting-edge of science and deliver the best patient care. In addition to being more compact, the annual congress will implement a formal rotation pattern to create more consistent opportunities for engagement of the global community.

Registration for ISTH 2017 is now open.
