In a national business events industry triumph, International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) scored a hat trick in the Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) National Awards, being named a winner in three categories.

Recognition through the national awards platform showcased ICC Sydney's service and commitment to fulfil its ambition to be more than a venue within the business events industry. These award wins mark a significant period for the venue as it prepares to welcome a strong pipeline of international and local events in 2023 and beyond, delivered by a diverse and talented in house team of events professionals.

ICC Sydney was lauded in the categories of Skilling Program of the Year, Virtual Event of the Year - highlighting the successful delivery of the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia’s (RCPA) Pathology Update 2021, and Operations Person of the Year - Jack Crozier, Senior Audio Visual Technical Manager.

Geoff Donaghy, CEO of ICC Sydney and Group Director - Convention Centres, ASM Global (APAC), praised the commitment and innovation of the people behind the accolades remarking, “To be honoured with these prestigious awards for our talented people, training and professional development programs and digital event solutions reflects not only the quality of our infrastructure, but also the industry benchmark we have set for event delivery.

“This achievement would not be possible without the consistent dedication and ingenuity of our highly skilled and trained 1,500 team members, for whom we are focused on creating careers, not just jobs, and providing them with learning and development opportunities to succeed.

“It is gratifying to see Jack Crozier recognised through this national industry award. From enhancing and innovating our AV services to skilling up the next generation of audio visual professionals through ICC Sydney’s AV Graduate Program – we are extremely proud of all that Jack has contributed to the venue’s service delivery and team culture.

“It was also wonderful to have our support and exemplary delivery of RCPA’s Pathology Update 2021 that utilised our comprehensive Connect Hub services set the gold standard of digital event delivery in Australia,” Mr Donaghy said.

Dr Debra Graves, Chief Executive Officer at RCPA reflected on the College’s partnership with ICC Sydney and the high standard of service and expertise that made Pathology Update 2021 possible, “We could not be happier to see our venue partner ICC Sydney recognised through the MEA National Awards program for their support of this critical chapter in the history of the Pathology Update event.

“From the outset, we selected ICC Sydney to help us plan a ‘what if’ scenario for Pathology Update 2021. We have a multifaceted programme that required expert coordination and a tried and tested innovative virtual event solution and to this end, ICC Sydney was central to the successful delivery of our event. We are delighted that by taking the event to a virtual model that year, it allowed exciting new lines of enquiry and thinking across pathology disciplines to take place," Dr Graves said.

ICC Sydney’s entries for Audio Visual Services and the Sales, Marketing or Business Development Person of the Year – Gabriella Alberici were both national finalists. Mr Donaghy continued, “Gabriella’s achievement as a national finalist is a shining example of how our team members are excelling in their own fields. She has been an integral part of the Business Development team since prior to ICC Sydney’s opening and consistently receives ringing endorsements and positive feedback resulting from the success of our clients.”

The MEA National Awards celebrate excellence and recognise industry leaders who consistently deliver exceptional experiences and drive innovation in event management. The winners were announced on 8 June 2023, at the highly anticipated MEA National Awards gala dinner.
