The opening of Calabar International Conference Centre in the 3rd quarter of 2015, heralds Nigeria’s entrance with the Calabar ICC, into the international meetings industry. Designed by award-winning Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects Calabar ICC will be able to accommodate over 4,000 delegates in 17 different venues with as many as 1,800 for plenary sessions and meeting rooms that can be used individually or in combination.

The centre had already won the bid to host the 6th All Africa Anaesthesia Congress in 2017, which will attract over 1,000 Anaesthetists from all over the world. Now, Calabar ICC has registered yet another success prior to its opening by winning the right to host APRA 2016 confirming the project is already a success story even before opening later this year.

APRA 2016 Conferences are flagship events organized by African Public Relations Association (APRA) – the umbrella body of all National Public Relations Associations in Africa.  Its objective is to improve public relations co-operation and development in Africa.

Calabar ICC will be hosting the 28th APRA conference, bringing together over 500 practitioners in public relations, media, advertising, government and other marketing communications professionals from across the Continent.

Announcing the executive board’s decision yesterday at La Falaise Hotel, Yaoundé Cameroon, Mr. Peter Mutie, APRA President, said Calabar’s bid, as presented by Mr. Asoro of Calabar ICC, emerged as the best of the competing countries. "Calabar ICC team put in an enormous effort to win the APRA 2016 bid".

"The strategic bidding decisions we made as a team are going to benefit greatly Nigeria and in particular Calabar" said Ben Asoro, Director Marketing & Sales. "We will be working on parallel legacy projects to this event such as getting students from relevant institutions, like University of Calabar, to attend this high profile and once in a lifetime event, affording them an opportunity they would certainly not have had without the presence of a world class Convention Centre here in Calabar", he added.
