At an exclusive gala evening, visit.brussels awarded the title of ambassador to 12 partners who greatly contributed to publicising Brussels in 2017 and confirming its status as an international MICE destination.
The 12 new ambassadors received their awards before an audience of academics, doctors, European Commissioners, rectors, chairpersons and directors of international associations headquartered in Brussels, scientists, hospital directors and other partners.
150 people attended the second edition of Brussels Ambassadors Night. Launched one year ago by visit.brussels, the aim of this event is to create a new network of professionals who will help to attract new international events to Brussels. A new way of adding to the international prestige of Belgium’s capital city and of showcasing local talent and expertise.
Who better than these ambassadors to attract the attention of Belgium’s academic and financial worlds to the importance and the advantages of organizing an international event for their field in Brussels?
For several years now, the Brussels-Capital region has been ramping up its efforts to attract big international events. In 2016, 906 meetings took place in the capital, making Brussels the world’s number one venue for association conferences (according to the annual report of the International Union of Associations) Each year, conferences held in the capital account for 2.5 million overnight stays. These events bring in annual receipts of 632 million euros and employ over 18,000 people.
The 12 Brussels Ambassadors Night award winners have contributed a great deal to these excellent results.
