A Popular Location for Medical Congresses

The presentations and accompanying exhibition focused on improving the treatment and care provided to people with incontinence disorders, as well as on possible ways to educate patients and keep them up to speed. Incontinence is a common disorder that affects more than nine million people in Germany. The Congress of the German Continence Society is an interdisciplinary event, as was evidenced once again by the physicians (mainly urologists, gynaecologists, and surgeons), care personnel, and physical therapists who attended to share their ideas.

 

In addition, a total of 53 exhibitors used the accompanying industry exhibition as an opportunity to unveil innovations in prevention and diagnostics or present personalised therapy concepts. All this makes the Congress of the German Continence Society the largest gathering on this subject in the German-speaking countries. “Having the chance to host such a prominent medical congress is a great pleasure for us, of course,” says Stefan Lohnert, Vice President of Guest Events at Messe Stuttgart. “It also shows that Messe Stuttgart offers facilities with the right features and flexibility at the ICS.”

 

The Congress of the German Continence Society takes place in a different German city each year. Positive impressions from other congresses organised at the ICS in the past led to the decision to come to Stuttgart in 2018. For this event's organisers, the ease with which Messe Stuttgart can be reached by car, aeroplane, and urban rail was another key aspect. The ICS made its own strong arguments with rooms that feature plenty of natural light and its location, which is within walking distance of the nearby hotels. “The fact that getting to our grounds is so easy is a crucial plus point for many event organisers,” Lohnert affirms. “It means that those attending congresses and trade fairs can use the limited time they have for important discussions rather than travel.”

 

The ICS’s annual event calendar now includes a number of well-known medical congresses, and more are expected to follow. Early this past summer, it hosted the 38th annual conference of the German Society for Senology, which drew 2,600 attendees and around a hundred exhibitors. The congress, meanwhile, centred on innovations, treatment methods, and trends in gynaecology, urogynaecology, gynaecological oncology, reproductive medicine, obstetrics, and other subjects. Along with the presentations and industry exhibition, a poster exhibition enabled the visitors to explore specific areas in greater detail. 

 

Next year, the INTERPHARM congress will kick off another series of high-profile, specialised events in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry in March 2019. It is known as the leading professional development event for pharmacists and pharmaceutical assistants in Germany. This scientific congress, which is to feature more than 60 speakers, is expected to draw some 3,000 people from Germany and other countries. These attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the latest findings and trends in the pharmaceutical industry in four seminars, two workshops, and over 50 presentations. In its accompanying exhibition, around 100 exhibitors will show off their innovations in this sector. INTERPHARM will also be celebrating its 30th anniversary in Stuttgart, which was the site of its very first event.

 

Shortly thereafter, Messe Stuttgart's schedule for March 2019 will continue with the 49th Congress of the German Society for Endoscopy and Imaging Techniques (DGE-BV), which is expecting around 800 visitors and 50 exhibitors. DGE-BV serves as a communication forum for research institutes, users involved in clinical work and research, and industry entities, as well as the society's own area-specific members and their occupational groups. This three-day event will thus focus on praxis and innovation in the field of endoscopy.

 

Messe Stuttgart will also be hosting two of its own events on the subjects of medicine and medical technology. MEDIZIN, a specialist trade fair and congress in outpatient medical care, is a fixture on the company's January calendar. In 2019, it will be taking place alongside the 54th Congress of Bezirksärztekammer Nordwürttemberg (a regional chamber of physicians in southwest Germany), which is expected to draw around a thousand participants. Its some 200 speakers and 80 seminars will offer doctors from practices and clinics, as well as employees who work in healthcare, a platform to exchange ideas across their respective disciplines.

In early May 2019, Messe Stuttgart will be hosting T4M – Technik für Medizin, another event of its own that hopes to provide a platform for medical technology in Baden-Württemberg – the German state with the most manufacturers of such devices. Across roughly 20,000 square metres of exhibition space, development and production managers, engineers, packaging experts, and scientists will be able to check out the industry's latest technologies.  An extensive programme of supporting events featuring various forums and presentation series will accompany the exhibition.
