The Congress of the UFI – the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry – is coming back to Milan. The event will take place November 4-7, 2015 at MiCo (Milano Congressi), the great convention centre managed by Fiera Milano Congressi and situated in the “fieramilanocity” area.

UFI was founded in 1925 right in Milan to promote cooperation among different fair organizations and to revitalize the sector after the end of World War I. Today UFI represents 675 member organisations (composed of 348 Exhibition Organisers, 96 Hall Owner Managers, 123 Exhibition Organisers & Hall Owner Managers, 51 Associations and 55 Partners of the exhibition industry), present in 237 cities in 84 countries on the six continents.

The decision to assign the congress to Milan was taken in April 2013 during a meeting of the UFI Executive Committee, which took place in Shanghai, and ratified in June 2013 by the Board of the association in Malmö, Sweden.  The international congress, even though scaled down (with about 450 participants foreseen in all between organizers, representatives, associations and service providers), is of great strategic importance in Milan: as a matter of fact, in the very same year of EXPO 2015 (from 1st May through 31st October 2015), the leading fair organization companies will be present. The objective of “Fondazione Fiera Milano” is to engage in territorial marketing in a sector boasting huge numbers: according to UFI estimates, each year more than 30 thousand fair events are organized worldwide, for a net total of 103 million square metres of exhibition space, and with the human element numbering 2.8 million direct exhibitors and 260 million visitors.

The congress activity carried on by Fiera Milano has grown in recent years, being further spurred by the opening in 2011 of the MiCo congress centre, the first in Europe in terms of capacity, able to accommodate 18 thousand and with 54 thousand square metres of exhibition space. Focusing on major international conventioning in both the associative and corporate market, with a medical specialization, and being able to offer an accommodation capacity unique in Europe, MiCo takes its place among the major world players of the congress business. Today, in addition to MiCo, Fiera Milano Congressi runs the Stella Polare Convention Centre situated at the exhibition area of Rho; MoMec, an exclusive location for business meetings, conventions and presentations located in Piazza Montecitorio in Rome; and the Convention Centre of Stresa on Lago Maggiore.
