The 2016 Congress of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) will take place in Nicosia from 20 to 22 April 2016.

The Council of European Municipalities and Regions is the largest organisation of local and regional government in Europe. Its members are 60 associations of local government from 41 countries. Together these associations represent more than 150.000 municipalities, cities and regions.

Every four years, CEMR gathers its members and partners for the Congress of European Municipalities and Regions. The CEMR Congress is one of Europe’s major networking event for mayors, councillors and actors engaged in local public policy and governance, where more than 1,000 participants are expected to attend, is the largest gathering of local and regional elected representatives and stakeholders in Europe.

The event title is Tomorrow starts today! and it will be placed under the motto A Local and Regional Vision of Europe 2030. Topics for discussion include the refugee crisis, territorial reforms in Europe, climate change and local finances.

Join Paris, Lisbon, Brussels, Cambridge, Malmö, Johannesburg and many more in Nicosia for Europe's major gathering of local and regional governments. The event is open to all of you who plan, design, live, work and shape cities.

The CEMR Congress is organised by CEMR and the Municipality of Nicosia, with the support of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities.
