The city of The Hague proudly announces that it will be hosting the 19th Congress of the International Society of Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISPOG). From 9 – 12 October 2019, ISPOG will welcome professionals working in the field of women’s health to exchange knowledge and experiences on how to put research results into practice.

In recent years, research results on psychosocial issues in obstetrics and gynaecology have proven that comprehensive counselling and guidance of patients is crucial. According to ISPOG, this is just one of many implications that the body of science provides practitioners with.

The ISPOG congress aims at spreading the most recent insights across the field as M. Caroline Vos, Congress President, explains, “by receiving our international colleagues in the field in The Hague, we will be listening to their valuable contributions to our science and we will be sharing and exchanging ideas."

Gynaecologists, midwives and all other medical professionals in the field of Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynaecology are invited to join the event. Sibil Tschudin, current ISPOG President, emphasises, “knowledge on psychosocial and psychosomatic issues is adamant for every gynaecologist, midwife and any other worker in the field. It is essential that we gather as an international community of ISPOG to share both knowledge and new ideas for further development.”

To pursue this objective, the Local Organising Committee and the Dutch POG composed a programme consisting of several keynote speeches, plenary and parallel sessions, covering all the subspecialties in the field, as well as a number of workshops and training.

Under the theme 'the whole is more than the sum of its parts', the congress offers an eventful agenda but will also leave plenty of time to network and discover host city The Hague.

Nienke van der Malen, Director of The Hague Convention Bureau states, “we are very proud that this important event will bring so many experts within the field of Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynaecology into our city. We are confident that The Hague, with its strong knowledge and event infrastructure, will provide delegates and organisers with a pleasant and impactful experience.”

Bas van der Sluis, Treasurer of the Dutch POG and Local Organising Committee clarifies why The Hague was chosen as the host for the next edition of the ISPOG congress, “The Hague as the City of Peace and Justice with all its beauty is a perfect place to meet with our international colleagues in Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Our work closely touches on human rights and the art in The Hague from De Stijl and in the Mauritshuis will provide us with enough food for thought.”

Registration for ISPOG 2019, which will take place in the centrally located NH Den Haag Hotel, opens on Thursday 1 November 2018. More information can be found on the congress website: www.ispog2019.org.
