The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) has announced that it will host the 28th International Conference of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology in 2021. The conference is expected to attract 1,000 international participants and generate in the region of €1.6 million for the local Irish economy.

The CCD worked closely with conference ambassador Professor Grace Mulcahy to initiate the bid for Dublin which was put together by the Local Committee in partnership with Keynote PCO, and supported by Fáilte Ireland, Meet in Ireland and Dublin Convention Bureau through the Conference Ambassador Programme.

Professor Grace Mulcahy, WAAVP2021 Conference Chair and Professor of Veterinary Microbiology and Parasitology at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University College Dublin commented, "Together with my colleagues who came together to make the bid to hold WAAVP2021 in Dublin, I am delighted to announce that our bid has been successful. This biennial Conference brings together the largest number of veterinary parasitologists globally, and has a strong tradition in showcasing both basic research and innovation in the discipline. We are determined that WAAVP Dublin 2021, building on previous conferences, will present a cutting-edge scientific programme spanning parasitology relating to companion animals, farm animals, one health, wildlife and ecosystems".

Emer Relihan, Account Manager at The CCD added, “We are delighted to have secured this prestigious meeting for Ireland. We continue to work hard to secure international association bookings for Ireland through our Conference Ambassador Programme and we are committed to continually refining our product to adapt to the needs of associations”.

Dr. Noel Mitchell, Managing Director of Keynote PCO also commented, “Keynote PCO, having a long working relationship within the Animal Health sector, was delighted to support the committee in securing this international event for Ireland. We look forward to a great meeting”.

The strength of the committee providing an “all island” approach demonstrated the enthusiasm and drive that Ireland provides for academic conferences. The WAAVP2021 committee includes several organisations: University College Dublin (UCD), the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Dublin City University (DCU), Queens University Belfast (QUB), Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and Teagasc.

The proposed conference theme is ‘Parasitologists Without Borders’ which will encourage scientific collaboration across the globe to deliver one health, sustainable livestock production, animal welfare and control of parasitic diseases in animals, humans, and ecosystems.
