Mega events often serve as excellent opportunities to test a destination’s MICE capabilities. Taiwan is more than ready to take on the challenge with a spectacular line-up of mega events that show off Taiwan’s numerous advantages and options as a MICE destination.

In June, the Taiwan International Balloon Festival welcomed more than one million visitors to Luye Township in Taitung County. The hot air balloons not only filled Taitung's day and night sky with colors and lights, they also attracted travelers from far and wide to enjoy Taitung's beautiful scenery. In its sixth year, the festival features the longest duration of hot air balloon activity in the entire world.

Taipei City, host of the 29th Summer Universiade from August 19 to 30, is an ideal location to ensure the success of any international athletic events. The biennial Summer Universiade 12-day competition will be the largest sporting event ever hosted in Taiwan: over 12,000 athletes, coaches, and staff from 145 countries are expected to take part in the competition in 22 sports categories. Taipei city boasts a combination of state-of-the-art sports facilities and advanced IT infrastructure. In addition, Taipei has extensive experience in hosting and organizing large-scale international events, such as the 2009 Deaflympics, the 2010 International Flora Exposition, and the 2011 International Design Alliance (IDA) Congress.

In November 2018, Taiwan will host the Taichung World Flora Exposition in three different locations: Houli Horse Ranch & Forest Park Area, Waipu Park Area, and Fengyuan Huludun Park. A total of 60 hectares of beautifully arranged flora and fauna will be presented in a variety of themed pavilions celebrating eco-friendly lifestyles and a peaceful coexistence with nature. Approximately 8 million visitors are anticipated for this spectacular event, which will last over five months from November 3, 2018 to April 24, 2019, and reflect on the intimate relationship between humanity and nature and the importance of sustainable development.

Taiwan is set to bask in the international spotlight during these eagerly anticipated mega events, where visitors can discover the many hidden charms of Taiwan.

Hosting mega events provides Taiwan with an excellent opportunity to showcase its stunning natural beauty, distinctive culture and outstanding infrastructure. As Taiwan’s MICE promotion program, MEET TAIWAN is proud to collaborate with the organizers to promote corporate travel and international meetings.
