As Scotland prepares to celebrate the Year of Young People 2018, Edinburgh is already proving its credentials as the top hotspot of choice for millennials and Gen Z, having been named Best UK Destination for Young People in the British Youth Travel Awards.

Hosted by BETA (British Educational Travel Association), the prestigious British Youth Travel Awards shine a light on the youth travel sector, recognising the destinations, businesses and organisations who successfully contribute to the industry.

Thanks to its famed beauty, rich history, vibrant festivals and popular nightlife, Edinburgh has garnered a rising global reputation as a thrilling and Instagram-worthy destination that youngsters are both passionate about living in and eager to visit.

2018 is set to be a pivotal year for Edinburgh’s younger residents and youth travellers as the city embraces the generation that make up just under a quarter of its population. Plans for the Year of Young People are already well underway with the Scottish Government led initiative to deliver an engaging and inspiring programme of events, activities and ideas, celebrating Edinburgh’s young personalities, talents and achievers.

Pete Duncan, Chair of Youth Travel Edinburgh said:

“We are delighted that Edinburgh has been recognised by the industry as the best destination in the UK for youth travellers whether to visit or study.

“Youth Travel Edinburgh is delighted to have played its part in promoting Edinburgh and we will continue to work closely with partners across the city to ensure we remain a world class destination for this sector.”

John Donnelly, Chief Executive of Marketing Edinburgh said:

“There is no better way to prelude Edinburgh’s planned celebrations for the Year of Young People 2018 than by winning this prestigious award.

“Edinburgh has earned a reputation as a vibrant, bustling and lively destination - and a lot of this is because of the young people who live, study and visit here. The capital is bursting with ambitious youths and we’re excited to create a platform for this generation to shine in 2018. Watch this space.”

The latest award comes hot on the heels of the announcement last month that Edinburgh was also voted the Best UK City Break for Families in the Family Traveller Awards.
