Plans are underway for the construction of new convention facilities covering 20,000 sqm to be located adjacent to the PACIFICO Yokohama convention centre.

The new site will help Yokohama gain a competitive edge by meeting the increased demand for international business events.

Scheduled for a spring opening in 2020, the Takenaka Group will be responsible for the design and construction. The Takenaka Corporation is one of Japan's largest contractors, from five domed stadiums in Japan (in Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka), to museums, hospitals, and office buildings; they have a wealth of experience in a wide range of projects. More locally, they were responsible for the construction of Yokohama Arena and Nissan Stadium in the city, venues that can accommodate large events, such as sports matches and concerts.

The Resort Trust Corporation will be responsible for the management of the new hotel planned adjacent to the convention facilities. It will be a fourteen-storied building with 270 guest rooms (for both general guests and members only). The company manages various resort including exclusive membership hotels and golf clubs.  The Resort Trust Group also manages the prestigious Kahala Hotel & Resort in Hawaii.

Convention Facilities Overview

  • One floor underground. Six floors above ground
  • Multi-purpose hall with 7,604 sqm (10,007 sqm including the foyer).
  • Meeting room space of 6,562 sqm(30 meeting rooms. Roughly the same size as the PACIFICO Yokohama convention centre)

Upon completion, the new Convention Centre combined with the PACIFICO Yokohama convention centre will allow for large-scale meetings of 5,000 people to be held in both centres at the same time.

In addition to the above projects, progress is being made in the construction of the Apa Hotel & Resort Yokohama Bay Tower in the harbour area. With over 2,400 rooms spread over 37 floors, the hotel will be the largest of its kind in Japan and is scheduled to open in 2019.
