NewcastleGateshead is set to host a leading energy storage conference for the first time, building on its reputation as an international hub for science and engineering.

Organised by Newcastle University, the 4th UK Energy Storage Research Conference (UKES) will bring over 200 energy storage industry professionals to the region. The conference will take place from 20 – 22 March 2018 at the new Urban Sciences Building at Newcastle’s Science Central development.

Situated on the Science Central site, the new £58 million Urban Sciences Building allows academics to work together in an environment specifically designed to benefit their research and promote collaboration

Phil Taylor, Head of Engineering and Deputy PVC of the Faculty of Science, Agriculture & Engineering at Newcastle University (SAgE), added: “With energy storage being a vital piece of the low carbon energy puzzle we are witnessing a huge boost of investment and innovation in the UK and worldwide. The 4th UK Energy Storage Conference (UKES2018) represents a unique opportunity of bringing together key industrial, academic and policy-making stakeholders in the field.

Join us in Newcastle, March 20-22, and engage with internationally leading experts covering areas of research, application, policy and commercial deployment, to help shape the future landscape of energy storage.”

Paul Szomoru, Head of Business Tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “It’s great to be able to welcome UKES to NewcastleGateshead and showcase what we have to offer, including the incredible new Urban Sciences Building at Science Central. As a destination we have an established reputation for expertise in science and engineering, and holding world-renowned conferences such as UKES help to enforce the growing reputation.

We’re looking forward to working together with Newcastle University and the other partners involved to ensure that the 2018 conference is bigger and better than ever before.”

Previously held in Birmingham, UKES is an annual conference hosted by The Energy Storage Research Network (ESRN), the Energy SUPERSTORE and the STFC Network in Battery Science and Technology, all funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

The conference will bring together researchers from academia, industry and policy across the whole field of energy storage, inspiring collaborations for future research. In attendance will be industry professionals from around the world, ranging from PhD students and early career researchers through to senior researchers in industry, academia, research institutes and government.
