IFEMA MADRID Participates in COP26 Through Global Mobility Call

The congress on sustainable and connected mobility will participate in the panel discussion A Business Perspective on COP26, organised by CEOE (Spanish Confederation of Employers’ Organisations) and sponsored by Iberdrola.

Global Mobility Call begins its international journey this week in Glasgow as part of the COP26 Climate Summit. The congress on sustainable and connected mobility is organised by IFEMA MADRID and Smobhub under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. Today, 4th November (6.30pm, Glasgow time), it will take part in the panel discussion organised by the CEOE and sponsored by Iberdrola, A business perspective on COP26. The panel will explore the role of business in the challenge of developing a strong climate policy.

Global Mobility Call’s presence at COP26 is particularly relevant to IFEMA MADRID’s efforts to strengthen its commitment to the future of mobility through its new strategy aimed at leading sustainable and internationally-connected mobility from Madrid and Spain, promoting debate and the implementation of policies with a cross-cutting vision of all the economic and social sectors on which mobility has an impact. The new Global Mobility Call event will be held from 14th to 16th June 2022. It will bring together international leaders and strengthen the positioning of sustainable mobility as the backbone of the social and economic change process. This positioning is in line with the objectives set by the European Union, Agenda 2030, for coping with the demographic challenge, economic momentum, connectivity, digitisation, Zero Emissions and Next Generation.

The CEOE forum will address the four challenges defined at COP26 from a business perspective, taking into account the critical role of business in generating confidence given its status as a key provider of solutions to meet environmental challenges.

The first of these challenges is to secure net zero emissions globally by mid-century. This will require countries to establish stable frameworks to enforce commitments by companies and industries. The second objective is to adapt to protect communities and natural habitats affected by climate change by restoring ecosystems and increasing resilience. The third challenge focuses on mobilising financial resources to meet these goals. The fourth focuses on working together to deliver and support, to really address the challenges of the climate crisis.

The panel will be chaired by Cristina Rivera, the CEOE’s director for Industry, Energy, Environment and Climate, with participation by Gonzalo Sáenz de Miera, Director for Climate Change with Iberdrola’s Chairman’s Office, Felipe Torroba, CEO of Ence Energía, Aniceto Zaragoza, CEO of Oficemen, Iñigo Fernández de Mesa, vice-chairman of the CEOE, Felix Benoit, Global Head of Structured Finance at Santander Corporate & Investment Banking, Arantxa Tapia, Minister of Economic Development and Sustainability of the Basque Country, Rocío Fernández, Director of Sustainability, Business, Climate Change at Azentía N World Company, and Mariana Castaño, international delegate of Global Mobility Call-IFEMA MADRID.
