Glasgow CB Celebrates the Importance of Partnership while Working from Home

As the meetings industry navigates through these unusual times, the importance of working together has never been more powerful. The virtual support and collaboration throughout the industry has been encouraging.

Recognising the significance of this during such difficult times, Glasgow Convention Bureau have begun to share examples of Team Glasgow’s collaborative approach in action.

As Glasgow Convention Bureau, alongside city partners and venues continue to offer city support, from home, regular updates are being shared on Glasgow Convention Bureau’s social channels to highlight not only the hard work of those involved, but also to reassure and encourage the local and wider industry that conferences will return to the city, when the time is right.

Aileen Crawford, Head of Conventions at Glasgow Convention Bureau said: “At Glasgow Convention Bureau we appreciated early on in the crisis how important it was to our Members and our local industry to show that Team Glasgow was still working to support our conference clients during these unusual times. 60% of the city’s 2020 conferences have chosen to postpone, rather than cancel, due in large part to the flexibility and support that was offered by the SEC, universities, venues, hotels and Convention Bureau team. A fine example of us all working from home but still working together!”

Updates have so far have centred on the city working collaboratively with conference clients and association members to establish new conference dates.

Examples of such conferences include the 18^th International Clinical Phonetics & Linguistics Association Symposium which will now take place from 22-25 June 2021 at the University of Strathclyde Technology and Innovation Centre. Also included is the Creative Cities Convention which will be taking place across 22-23 April 2021 at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

Dr Joanne Cleland, International Clinical Phonetics and Linguistics Association Symposium said: “As a Glasgow Conference Ambassador, I was very grateful for the support I received from my University, the University of Strathclyde, and its flagship venue the Technology and Innovation Centre and the Glasgow Convention Bureau, when we realised that the 18^th International Clinical Phonetics and Linguistics Association Symposium was unable to take place due to the Covid-19 related lockdown measures.  By working closely together we have new dates in the diary for June 2021.  We all look forward to welcoming our delegates to a memorable ICPLA Conference in Glasgow next year.”

Susie Townson, Event Organiser, Creative Cities Convention said: “When we realised that the Creative Cities Convention 2020 was not able to take place due to the Covid-19 related lockdown, the support we received from the Glasgow Convention Bureau and the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall helped us make the decision to postpone to 2021 and made a very stressful and difficult time much easier to manage. We had been planning the convention in Glasgow for many months and we were so looking forward to gathering our industry representatives together this year. However, with plans now in place for new dates in April, we are very much looking forward to meeting in Glasgow in 2021, with the conference’s ‘going global’ theme now more relevant than ever.”
