Busan is a top international conference host that was ranked 5th in Asia and 13th worldwide according to the 2019 UIA records. Busan attracts and hosts large international conferences, and has held two special summits for Korea-ASEAN in 2015 and 2019. Another large, international event—30th Anniversity World Congress on Biosensors —is scheduled to be held in Busan this November. Busan is continuing to attract attention as a MICE event host and will also be hosting the World Table Tennis Championships in February 2021 and the International Geological Congress (IGC) in August 2024.

Although the hosting of regular, international MICE events is an important part of the Busan MICE industry, it is just as important for Busan to continue to develop and host its own domestic MICE events. The local MICE industry must discuss what MICE events will realize the potential of Busan and what areas need to be expanded for the successful hosting of events.

To facilitate these discussions, the Convention Bureau of the Busan Tourism Organization will be operating the “B-Convention Discovery and Cultivation Project.” The project seeks to develop conventions that represent Busan through public-private academic R&D collaboration of Busan's MICE industry.

The “B-Convention Discovery and Cultivation Project,” seeks to cultivate conventions that are unique to Busan in the mid- to long-term and raise the value of Busan as a MICE host. The final objective of the project is to move forward to its goal of becoming a global MICE city discovering attractive items and cultivating them. Stay on the lookout for more information on “B-Conventions!”
