The Darwin Convention Centre will welcome members of the International Society for the Study of Iron in Biology and Medicine (BioIron Society) from all over the world to the Top End of Australia when Darwin hosts the 2021 Congress. The Darwin Convention Centre worked in close collaboration with Northern Territory Business Events to secure the event.

As an emerging destination for health research, the Northern Territory is an ideal choice to host the Congress. Darwin trumped other international cities bidding for the opportunity to host more than 300 international delegates.

Professor Nathan Subramaniam, Australian Board Member of the BioIron Society, said the Congress will be an opportunity for delegates to have a truly authentic Australian experience.

'The Congress will provide delegates from all around the world the opportunity to experience the Top End of Australia while meeting in world class facilities to present and discuss the latest research in this field', added Subramaniam.

Darwin Convention Centre General Manager, Peter Savoff said securing this event for Darwin demonstrated the region's ability to host international conferences.

'Darwin is the perfect destination for business events such as the International BioIron Congress, where delegates can enjoy our vibrant multicultural city and amazing tourism experiences.

'The Darwin Convention Centre is an award winning international business venue and is proud to host business events like this, which are vital to tourism and promoting our industry strengths', Savoff said.

The Northern Territory Government supports the event through the Northern Territory Business Events Support Fund.

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss welcomed the announcement of the successful bid.

'Darwin is a progressive and innovative capital city and is demonstrating its position as a world-class event city', Moss said.

'Darwin is the thriving business hub of Northern Australia and a gateway to Asia. Enjoying a creative inspiring and mulitcultural community, Darwin is the ideal destination for members of the International BioIron Society to experience Australia.

'The Northern Territory Government is proud to support business events like this which generate significant economic benefit for the region.'

The International BioIron Society are looking forward to working with Northern Territory Business Events and the Darwin Convention Centre to deliver a world-class event that will promote research and advance public education in this very important field.
