Copa Airlines is planning to launch daily nonstop flights between Panama and San Francisco, California, the company announced. The US city will be the Panama-based carrier’s 12th US destination.

“Copa Airlines is pleased to announce its new direct service between Panama and San Francisco, a major tourist, business, financial and technology destination with strong ties to Latin America,” said Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines. “This new Copa flight not only greatly enhances business and leisure travel options between San Francisco and Panama; it also increases connectivity with more than de 55 destinations throughout Latin America.”

The flights will also create a new pathway for Copa’s host of destinations across the Caribbean region, particularly Caribbean Basin coastal destinations. “We are very proud to offer our renowned world-class service to this extraordinary destination, which gives our passengers a wide selection of international destinations,” Heilbron said. “We believe our new flight will make a substantial contribution to tourism and general economic development between California, Panama and the rest of the Latin American region, opening up important markets such as Asia.”

Copa will be operating the service on Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft carrying 154 passengers.

The service will launch on Sept. 17th, 2015.
