Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has announced that Brisbane has taken another significant stride forward in the food and beverage production industry by securing a key Global Forum for Innovations in Agriculture event in early September this year.

The GFIA in Focus event to promote sustainable food production demonstrates the Brisbane Convention Bureau’s continuing efforts to align major conventions with the city’s key industries.

Cr Quirk said Queensland was Australia's premier state for fruit and vegetable production, growing one third of the nation's produce, with the Greater Brisbane region playing a leading role.

“GFIA in Focus will see 2000 delegates from across the Asia Pacific visit Brisbane for the two-day conference, generating $2.3 million in economic impact for the city,” Cr Quirk said.

“We are taking advantage of Brisbane's position as the closest eastern seaboard capital city to Asia, which provides supply chain advantages within the food production industry.

“Growing Brisbane’s food and agribusiness industry is part of the city’s strategy to boost our economy, which is why we want to attract industry leaders to our city.

“GFIA in Focus will be a great opportunity for Brisbane’s businesses and entrepreneurs to gain information, advice and connections by hearing from industry experts across the region.

“Brisbane is a growing hub for food and agricultural technology innovation, with a reputation for high-quality, clean and green products. There’s no better place to hold this conference than right here in Australia’s New World City.

Precision agriculture will be the theme of GFIA in Focus, with the Asia Pacific event the latest addition to the GFIA family of events across the world.

The event is tailored specifically towards manufacturers and suppliers in the food and agriculture sector looking to extend market position through direct communication with farmers, growers and distributors across the region.
